Felt Hats and Smoky Bars

Well, folks, I wear a 7X beaver hat and I don't smoke. What can I do after I come home from a smoky bar to help keep the hat from acquiring the odor of week-old tobacco smoke?

Does the bar have a roof on it? If so, then the hat shouldn't be on your head.

Ah, but there are times when a hat is appropriate indoors. Particularly bad hair days or when that's the standard dress code for the bar. Pledge of allegiance, national anthem, churches, hospitals, and most people's houses it's bad news - but in a bar it's fair game.

Reminds me of the late-great Howard Cosell talking to Bum Phillips right after Bum went to work for the Huston Oilers.
Cosell said, "I believe this is the first time I've ever seen you without your Stetson hat. What gives?"
Phillips replied, "A gentleman never wears his hat indoors." (Huston Astrodome)

One of the few times I ever saw Cosell at a loss for words.

You can tell Nunn is a Texan. My dad would come up out of the ground and slap that hat off of my head for wearing it in a building.[:D]

A good cowboy hat is acceptable in doors in ND. You just have to wear it in the rain and the smoke smell will come out.

Now you Texans stop pulling his leg. I have been in Texas at Bill Bobs and there were a field of hats in that bar. And some might fine lookin goat tiers too!![;)]

You just have to live with it - it'll fade - unless your in the bar every weekend.... Sorry Nunn but most of the clubs around Arlington Dallas and Ft. Worth seamed like hats were required, back in the 70s. Never did wear one in Mom's house or others - but when did bars become respectable in TX??? I musta been away toooo long[:D][:D]

Those were mostly "urbin cowboys", and most of them came down from the northeast. They, for the most part, do not represent the non-urbin, true Texans.[;)]

Dont go to smokey bars or else start smoking so you dont notice it.
I thought all cowboys "rolled their own cigarettes".

No native Texan inhabit Billy Bob's. Or Gilley's.

They are strictly tourist and transplant establishments.

Yeah, considering that the definition of a "Texan" is a Mexican on his way to Oklahoma. [:D]

Heck, I would never compare my mommas house to a bar. Boy you Texans are a polite crowd.

First thing is they don't have hat racks in the bars that I have been in and second as long as I watch my tongue, I am less likely to have a drink spilled (or thrown) on my hat if it is on my head.

Suppose you Texans drink beer through straws to avoid that problem[:D][:D][:D][:D]

Then there is that age old saying: "I don't care what you do to me, just don't touch the hat."

Lastly if you saw how tall these Norwegian women are in North Dakota, you would were a hat to match height with them when they are in heels[;)]
