Good for you! Dogs seem to pick up the scent better after a rain.

Cowdoc...were the sharptails in the wheat stubble at the southeast corner by the stop sign? Glad to hear that you got a couple of roosters...guess that means that we didn't get them all! LOL

Will send pics in an email...

John, no they was in a 1/4 of wheat stubble about 1/2 mile SW of that one we never made it there while you was here did see about 20 p chickens get up in the pasture by the dam south of the house, wasnt ready for them either, me and the kids was getting ready to jump the dam fill to see if we could get a duck when the chickens flew off the top of the hill east of the dam.
Did you guys find any dry ice for them birds for the trip home?

Nope..but kept enough ice on them to keep them frozen solid. Left Pierre in the rain about 6:45 that Wednesday morning and pulled into Shreveport at 1:15 then next morning. 1176 miles. Let's just say my bony butt was sore!!! But we had a great time. Gonna cook up a couple tomorrow for Sunday dinner. Don't guess you got your winter wheat in yet.

    cowdoc

I have my Heidi dog. Let me know sometime and I will bring her down. I love to hunt those roosters, but I can leave my shotgun in the truck and work the dog. She is very sad that we don't have a good population this year and she is not getting to do her thing that she loves to do.

John got most of the winter wheat in, would have liked to plant a couple more 1/4's but was getting late and too wet still have'nt harvest any corn or sunflowers gonna have to wait till ground freezes up looks like and hope we dont get buried in snow. we for sure needed the moisture but sure could use some warm sunny days, think i can say for sure the drought has broke and thats good [:)]
    Tell Brad hi for me.

Plains, now why would you want to leave your shotgun in the pickup? [:D] our numbers are down also, i sure thought they looked like they was going to be pretty good from what i thought i seen earlier but there are a lot of unharvested crops still standing, so maybe there are more here than what we have seen sofar i do know we have a racoon problem and me and good friend of mine was talking about pheasant population he mentioned that when we had very high populations, the racoon population got thined real hard with distemper or something after he mentioned that i remember i had shot a lot of sick * them years.

JustC its a lot of fun taking your kids hunting, mine really enjoy it
even though they like to fight with each other once in a while [:D]

    Hey cowdoc

I know how everyone likes to invite themselves along. A guy I know has a coule that is full of pheasants that I would love to hunt. He told me he reserves it for old people and kids. I said cool. I told him I would try and find a kid or two and bring them out but my shotgun will stay in the pickup.

Know what you mean about *. Racoons, skunks, fox and coyotes take a lot of eggs and newly hatched - regardless of what the "biologists" say.

Plains, That's the bottom line too! Every place I once hunted that was thick with pheasant and quail, are now thick with the above predators. Both game clubs I hunt now offer a bounty on all of them! A couple of #4 buck rounds always sit in my vest pocket now!

No one traps anymore and predator hunting for skunks is out. I have been thinking of setting traps this fall/winter where I hunt and see how many * and skunks I can take.

the other thing that burns my craw is the federal bird of prey laws. Predators without fear soon become over populated and decimate game. Hawks and eagles and owls, all of which I think are great birds are so numerous that they take game birds in large numbers.
