Eating diseased cattle>

I believe slaughterhouses in this country can legally kill sick cattle and sell the meat. I have seen it done on a local level and believe watched a TV special stating the same thing.

Does anyone out their have the facts as what can or cannot be done legally in the meat industry.

Thanks

Rockton

We had a small outbreak of Brucellosis near here in the late 70's. I believe they could be slaughtered as processed meat only. Not sold as fresh cuts. Maybe it was sold as pet food for that matter.

I'll tell you this. I used to know an old time farmer that had undulant fever, the human equivilant of brucellosis. A very unpleasant situation to be in.

Remember the Hudson foods fiasco. After Hudson went under I read that all that bad beef went to taco bell for taco filling. Needless to say, I don't eat much fast food anymore.

Tire of your old Menu of "Diseased Beef?" How about a little "Road Kill" for a change of pace....... I can't believe this! "Holy Freakin' Tomatoes!"

The "Brucellosis" outbreak is absolutely inexcusable!!!! There is a vaccine for this one in cattle and for the most part, practically all dairy cattle in this country are vaccinated for it! The farmer who wouldn't vaccinate for this one doesn't deserve to be farming!!!! GHD

Probably won't be long before they start raising Elk, Deer, Etc... on a "Comercial" level and injecting them with all kinds of growth horemones and antibiotics and selling it at the local supermarket...

GHD it was caused by a underhanded cattle dealer selling unvaccinated heifers as vaccinated. several herds were destroyed because of this guy. At the time it was a big thing in the news. The farmer I knew got it from drinking raw milk from his bulk tank before they realized it was there.

When guns were invented everything changed. For the first time in the history of the world a frail woman had a chance to sucessfully defend herself and home. My dream is that one of the anti-gun nuts will need a gun for defense and be unable to have one because of their own actions.

woods, That's the real problem with "Bangs" common name for Brucellosis! It is transmitted through raw milk! I knew a cow dealer who did the same thing and was caught and went to prison for awhile over it.....I think he should have spent the rest of his life there!!! He had a steer that he took all the blood samples from and sent them off as the heifers he was selling, knowing full well they weren't vaccinated! He got busted and so did his veterinary accomplice!!!!!! GHD

If producers and processors were responsible like my brother rancher, they would put down a sick animal and bury it.
