Browning BL-22 vs other Lever 22's

I've got a little Christmas cash burning a hole in my pocket and yesterday a Browning Bl-22 Grade II caught my eye. I've never had a .22 rifle that cost much, so it's out of character for me, but I like it's looks. I've had very little experience with lever action 22's and just wondered what you all think about the Browning, Marlin, and Winchester lever 22's. It is a beautiful gun, has much better fit and finish than the others including the Marlin Texan that I had been wanting. Opinions please!

What wrecks it for me (as with the B92, 1885, etc.) is that "Made In Japan" stamped on the barrel. Else, very nice indeed.

It is kind of a shame for anything as American as a lever action to be made in Japan[V] And even more of a shame that it looks the best.

I know what you mean. I had a sweet little Uberti 1873 .22 rifle that I sold for the same reason ("Made in Italy"). A lever gun just has to be made here.

Marlin 39A is a good one. I like mine. The wood on it is great.

I've got a BLR in .243 and guess what? It shoots as well as any rifle I own & looks great while doing it. I don't care if it was made in Lower Sowbuggia!

I have a henry and a winchester in 22 lr. I shoot the henry more than the winchester, the action is smother in the henry. Nothing wrong with the Winchester, just costs way to much. I also have a browning hoop leaver in 308 very acc. Fist 2 shots will go in to the same hole at 100 yards, the 3rd will go 1" higher, I think it's the barell band. It's great and it's light. Trigger pull aint to good.

Marlin Golden 39A; mine is one of the older ones, before they started gussying them up with all the checkering. Personally, I think they look much better without checkering.

Beautiful gun, very nice wood, and the most accurate .22 I've ever had. Had it for well over twenty years now, wouldn't take a thousand dollars for it.

.280 Freak is right. 39A made before 1970 is the sweetest .22 lever ever. I have on from the mid 60's and another from 1955 and are they sweet. Grew up with one and maybe that is why I am so fond of this model.

Can not go wrong with the old gold trigger.

GB ususally has one or more on auction.
