Media makeing Firearms worse than they really are

As much as i love to play those Grand Theft Auto video games and watch all those action movies, i realize that the media makes guns seem worse than they really are. Even though these forms of entertainment are great, they could put a bad look on shooters and that isn't fair. For example, i love to shoot shotgun with Shooter4 but my mom isn't always willing to let me go. I found she was not letting me go because she see's me playing these violent games and then turns on the TV only to find headlines on the news like "A man took his wife hostage with a pistol" or "A man was shot today....". There are some people that are mental and will do that kind of stuff. I think that the media puts an unfair outlook on the responsible shooters(which most gun handelers are). What do you think?

Duh. The media lumps gun owners in with the likes of religious zealots, neo-Nazis, serial killers, and serial rapists. They never figure that gun owners are, in fact, one of the main lines of defense against the lunatic fringe since psychotic delusionals (a) are unlikely to obey the law and (b) unlikely to change their ways over a referendum.

Mind you, I'm not saying that violence is the first and best way to deal with disagreements. But if someone thinks it's a good idea to rape your daughter, sitting him down and talking it over with him is not likely to be within your realm of choices, especially if he's just broken into your home.

But for some reason, the media believes that anyone with a gun is an out-of-control lunatic with little-man syndrome itching for an excuse to shoot someone. Why? Because it's more sensationalistic to paint a portrait of a drooling, heavily-armed psychopath than to portray them as the responsible, law-abiding citizens that most of us are. To make a "This is Spinal Tap" reference, nobody ever sold papers by running the headline, "Cute fluffy kitten saved. Everyone happy."

    It's news - It's what sells.

It doesn't matter much to them what they write - as long as it makes headlines.

Don't do anything that I've allready done - That'd be just plain STOOOOOOPID.

I have had many long discussions about the same thing. Almost wherever you look you see the biased media putting their spin on every situation. The bad part is, they do not concern themselves with truth and objectivity, they just concern themselves with what will make them money and sell copies. One example, in Prof. John Lott's book, More Guns Less Crime, out of a few hundred reports of a particular shooting in Georgia, only about 2 if I remember correctly mentioned the fact the the two people who apprehended the shooter were themselves armed. It's a shame that guns are portrayed that way, when there is so much more than what the news/media states. It's even worse when people only /fully belive what they see on television (i.e. younggunz mother, no offense intended). People need to be more educated about the full truth about firearms. I am really encouraged to see the efforts of many of the members of this board to educate people correctly in this aspect. Thank you for that.

All it takes for evil to prevail is that good men do nothing.
