If You have Nothing to Hide

If you have nothing to hide then what is wrong with registering your guns?

If you have nothing to hide what is wrong with random profiling and car searches by police?

If you have nothing to hide what is wrong with a national ID card?

If you have nothing to hide what is wrong with registering your name and SS number when buying ammo?

I personally do not have anything to hide except my freedom and personal quest for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness from those who my see fit to take it way from me.

Pack slow, fall stable, pull high, hit dead center.<BR>

I may have nothing to hide now with the laws as they are, but governments have been known to give law-abiding citizens an awful lot to hide, overnight, when they overstep their bounds. Paperless transactions and the maintenance of laws against unlawful searches are the best protections of freedom we have against the stuff we can't predict and the founders wouldn't have countenanced. Gun owners are used to becoming more prepared than their neighbors for things they hope will never happen. You just have to quietly do what you personally think is prudent and reasonable within your basic human rights.

    T. Jefferson: "[When doing Constitutional interpretation], let us [go] back to the time when [it] was adopted. [Rather than] invent a meaning [let us] conform to the probable one in which it was passed."

The more information you provide to the government the less "freedom and personal quest for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness from those who my see fit to take it way from me" you will have. And as for those "who may see fit to take it away" from you, are already called government officials.

if you dont have anything to hide, then i guess you would not mind the police searching your house without a warrant,or pull you over at 3:00 a.m. just to ask where you are going?

its not about what i have to hide, its about what i want to KEEP when the liberals get their way finally. And people need to mind their own business instead of keeping tabs on me with my guns. [:p]

It ain't the 'liberals' I worry about...EVERYBODY watches THEM...its the 'conservitives'...fascists really..that sneak around under the radar, peeking into your windows, tapping your phone, checking out what you read down at the library, having your bank transactions watched...now they worry ME....

    As a US citizen:

If I have nothing to hide -

And I give government the right to look where they've had no right to look before... Can I trust that government to see to my best interests in the future?

If I register my guns -

And I give government information that could be used to confiscate them... Can I trust that government not to?

If I support random profiling -

And I allow searches of my car and property... Can I trust government not to use such to abrogate my civil rights?

    If I support a National ID -

And allow it to be used to control my free travel... Might it not be used in the future to control even the purchase of a slice of bread?

And if I'm to leave my name and SS # for the legal purchace of ammo -

Isn't that illegal to start with? SS numbers were intended only to identify retirement accounts and their use was to be strictly limited. I should trust my government or some pimple-faced clerk with a "secure" ID number?

I have nothing to hide, but my answer is NO!!! There is nothing so important as my ability to be presumed innocent, my right to privacy, and the freedoms guaranteed me under the US Constitution and Bill of Rights.

BUT - I fail to understand why any of these rights is guaranteed to a non-citizen. Profile, register, card... Do whatever is necessary to protect CITIZENS.

I have nothing to hide but don't you think alot of people will get scared or stereotype me if they new I had say 15 AR15's, 10 AK47'2, 22 SKS's, 13 Cetme rifles, 2 M1 garands, 3 Dragonuv's, and had 23,000 rounds of ammunition?

Let's say I have all of that....and I live in Pennsylvania. A criminal shoots up a bank and they make out the culprit used a AR15. They got footage on the bank's camera's. Who's house are they going to first?

Will I be treated innocent until proven guilty? I think not.

I would have a SWAT team raiding my house, shooting me and my family, taking everything I had. With no trial they take credit for 'getting the bad guy'.

...If you have nothing to hide what is wrong with registering your firearms?....Words of a fool.

Insightful comment, gunpaq, although some seem to have taken the first few lines at face value.

To put it bluntly, I do have some thing to hide, my dignity![:(!] I feel that I have the personal freedom to not be hassled by the Government. If the Government has nothing to hide then why are so many documents protected from viewing under the freedom of information act. Why are all the documents from JFKs assasion still not being seen. Our Government and it's leaders have a lot to hide. The reason they want us to give up our freedoms such as gun ownership is they are afraid we will some day wise up and ask them at gun point what they are hiding![}:)] Just my 2 cents worth
