Yeah, 600 yds is a test all right, but not like a 1000. That's where they seperate the men from the boys.

1/2 a mile with iron sights on a M1A, it don't get no tougher.

Use to love to shoot those DCM matches. 200yds slow fire off hand, 200yds rapid sitting w/ a mag change from the standing position, 300 yds rapid prone w/ a mag change from the standing position, and 600 yds slow fire prone all done with iron sights. Those were the days before old eyes and fat bellies.

these matches seperate all the goons with crap hanging off their M1A's from highly tuned works of art made by master smiths in the hands of seasoned shooters. nothing beats a 4000.00 match M1A in the hands of a pro. nothing. what a joy to shoot one. for those that have one, you know what i mean. for those that have silly M1A transformers....sorry.[:I]
come on out and watch them go thru the paces.[^]

I witnessed several shooters hitting the target at 700 yards with iron sights. BDJ was one of the shooters. I could not even see the targets. I guess they should have used oranges instead. Don

Hitting the metal at 700 yds was a breeze with a bedded M1, good ammo, wind indicators and iron sites. Had to show off and shoot the little ground target on the last shot. That was the first time I ever shot at those medium/long ranges. It was a lot of fun.
