CSU bans guns on campus (more added)

UPDATE BELOW:

but, there is more to the story:

C&P from an email I get from USCCA, www.usconcealedcarry.com

Colorado State University has recently banned concealed weapons on campus. No, that's not the good news- that's stupid news. But listen to this: The sheriff in that count (Larimer County), a Mr. James Alderden is NOT happy about it. It gets better...

He's publicly announced the following:

"I have told the CSU police chief I will not support this in any way. If anyone with one of my permits gets arrested for concealed carry at CSU, I will refuse to book that person into my jail. Furthermore, I will show up at court and testify on that person's behalf, and I will do whatever I can to discourage a conviction. I will not be a party to this very poor decision."

If your eyes aren't already watering, read what he said next:

"It's a weapons-free zone for law-abiding people, and it won't do a single thing to keep armed criminals off of campus. It will only ensure them a lot of defenseless victims. The people who did this are lost in their own world of ideological liberalism. You would think people involved in academia would want to deal in data and experience, but this has been all about emotion."

Here is the story (and a poll to vote in)

    Let's elect that Sheriff president.

I think he may be on to something here.

Always want to make sure the law-abiding are defenseless. 30 dead in the headline looks much better than 3.[xx(] Man, liberals are stupid.

In red above. Geez S. Crist! With nothing more than that quoted paragraph from that sheriff, as far as I am concerned that man can be our next president.

    Good on him!

But isn't there a federal law about guns on campus?

I work at a college and this is the only real reason I've not bothered getting that little card yet...

Thanks for that link to the article and the chance to vote. Wow! 97% of those people vote that the gun ban should be ignored. Great!

Hmmm, first I would like to know how many permits he has issued.

This could very well be a hard jump to the right, due to his constitutional challenger in the upcoming election.

Never heard anything like this out of Larimer county before[?]

No, in fact there are several states that allow it. Indiana as an example.

Sorry, I am intiredly to inebriated to make that connection. I will have to take your word and look at it in the morning.

You make a valid point that this could be a politician motivation for his reelection, and I would not put it past any one in a voted office. Sad, if that is all it is.

Will see tomorrow what I can find of his record during his time as sheriff.

Trying to find more on this guy. So far all I have found is complaints about some muslim joke he told, and this...

A sheriff in Fort Collins, Colorado is protesting a city ban on religious displays and over the weekend he hosted a holiday event to put up displays outside his office.

Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderdan says he's pushing back against political correctness gone amuck.

Saturday(12/6), Alderdan put up a Christmas tree, built a nativity scene and erected a Menorah with about one hundred people from the community helping him.

Last year, Larimer County banned religious displays on public property.

In protest, Alderdan put up a Christmas tree. Alderdan says his holiday displays are not about politics but about the celebration of all faiths.

He says no matter what kind of pressure he gets, he's not backing down.

Hmmm, so far, I can't find much to complain about. Still looking...

In Montana, we call them White Hats.

State rights trump their little commie parade. I'm glad the sheriff is well educated and is not afraid to protect people's rights. He sounds like the kind of guy you would want as Governor of your state or city.

Thanks for the uplifting story. :)

Should Colorado State students ignore the new weapons ban, as their sheriff suggests?

Yes, they should ignore the ban 97%

No, they should obey the campus rules 3%

    I don't know 0%

    I don't care 0%

Looks like the CSU administration giving the the student Senate and body a taste of real government.

The student Senate of the Fort Collins campus opposed the ban by a 23-1 vote. That means CSU governors, and administrators who pushed for the ban, don't seem to care what their customers think.

I'd donate to this Sheriff any day!

As near as I can tell, this sheriff is running for County Commissioner, and a potential replacement for him (Carl Bruning) may be even more of a rabid constitutionalist than Aldededn. Larimer County is in good hands, if they are smart enough to elect these men. We shall see...

Glad that you had a chance to look it up JP. I did not find anything either. It would be nice to have more like this gentleman.

The guy who is running for sheriff has no police background. Guess that is not required for the sheriff.

All that is required is to win. Record or not.

Sheriff is the most important and powerful LEO office in the land. We need ALL sheriff's to think this way, and as storm6490 said "protect the people's rights". That is their job.

Colorado is becoming another liberal magnet State. Gun free zones are for those morons born without common sense.

It was the 2 1/2 million Commiefornians that flooded into the front range/I70 corridor (up to Aspen) in the 80's and 90's. Totally turned CO politics on it's head.
