Peeling/shelling Pecans.

Add 75-80 nuts to 1/2 gallon boiling water.Return to boil and boil for 8-10 min.
Allow to cool long enough to handle and crack/peel as usual.(the hammer method ain't so good)[;)]

The hammer method is great, but you need to know just how hard to hit or not hit....

A friend of mine brought some up from Spartanburg. His dad had sent them through a cracker. It broke the shell slightly but didn't break it wide open.
Hey, I wonder if that's where the term, CRACKER came from?

The pecan cracker I have is like the one JustFun has. It works great. Paper shell pecans can be cracked in your hand, usually. The native pecans have much harder shells.
