I bought an item off of ebay where the stated shipping charge was 8.25 priority.

The guy emails me back and said he made a mistake on the weight of the item and will need more money.

what would you do?

I just observed a auction on here for a small single shot 22 cal rifle. The seller wants 35$ for a shipping charge. I sale a lot of stuff on another site and have never had to charge 35$ for shipping. Did shipping take a huge turn upward in the last day or two?

Puzzle me this.........A seller on GB has an item listed for no reserve and no buy now price. Their starting bid is about what the item is worth. You prepare to make a bid and go down to the item description and find out the shipping is $60!?! I thought there must be some mistake, so contacted the seller. He said all handguns had to be shipped next day air! "What?" says I. Why is that? He said that is how it is done. I responded by saying "Why would I bid on a fairly priced item and then pay $60 shipping?" That charge automatically puts the gun out of reach and overpriced. Am I wrong here or is that ridiculous?[?][:(!]

At what point does it get excessive?

My favorite is when the seller pays shipping (assuming you're the buyer)!

I usually sell low-priced items on GB, and have FREE SHIPPING!

Of course, that's figured in the price of the item, but it does help get some sales!

From now on, I'm going to figure in the shipping on my "sells". Being located near the middle of the U.S., I can just use the East or West coast as a reference. I dont't mind bidding on items as long as the shipping is listed, but refuse to bid if it is not! Some sellers inflate the shipping to increase profits.

I now have a policy that shipping charges definately have an influence on my on-line purchases and bids. I realize that someone has to pay for shipping, but I refuse to deal with anyone who is obviously trying to increase his profit by charging obscene shipping charges. If the seller doesn't state a flat shipping charge or "actual shipping charge" then I take my business elsewhere. It is his loss.

Seems like it is feast or famine with shipping charges on internet sales.
I just picked up a package at the post office that was shipped to me from Georgia. The company (Georgia Precision Shooter's Supply) charged me $17.05 for "shipping and insurance". The postage strip on the package was for $5.40 and there was no insurance sticker on the package! They made an extra $$11.65 off my purchase.
On the other hand, a couple of weeks ago I ordered several hi cap mags from a small shop in Texas. They charged a flat rate of $6.00 for shipping and insurance. When the package arrived, the postage sticker was for a little over $11.00 and there was an insurance sticker on the box. Needless to say that I will do business with them again!

I bid here on GB handguns where the seller has a FFL and will ship it USPS insured.

I just bought on that way and the shipping was a reasonable $15 from Washington St to Fl.

The private seller having use UPS overnight is another story.

I have been a private seller in the past (probably in the future, too) and I have to use the gun shop up the street from my house to ship guns through. They charge me a whopping 40 bucks to ship. Is that standard, or are they raking me over the coals more than other gun shops do? I have had a couple of people (through private sales) accuse me of "profit shipping" until I give them the name and number of my FFL so they can confirm shipping costs. I have never had anyone back out of a sale because of it, but would understand if they did. My ads usually state the price and then say "plus shipping." I should probably just add that 40 bucks into the price before placing the ad.[V]

I think you are getting a trip to the cleaners by the gun shop who is probably shipping them USPS for $10-$15 for a handgun.

Why not ship them yourself as long as your shipping to an FFL
You can ship Long guns USPS and Handguns Fedex or UPS, Handguns just have to go overnight. (Overnight still won't cost you $40)

The buyer needs to insure FFL that he is using will accept a gun from a pvt. seller some FFL's just don't understand the shipper does not have to have an FFL

I posted earlier that I sell small items with FREE SHIPPING.

If I 'charged' for shipping some pennypincher would scream he'd been ripped off. It doesn't matter if I have to get a box to ship it in, box it up, drive to the post office, buy postage, and mail it. If the stamp was less than what I'd 'charged' he'd scream!

    Example:

I sell 'grease pots' for the M1 Garand for $7.00 a dozen, with free shipping.

Say I'm selling them for $5.00 a dozen, and charge $2.00 for shipping. The postage runs around $1.26, depending on what size box I can get to ship them in. Some 'pennypinchers', aka IDOITS, would scream about that $.74. I've seen these idiots give negative feedback over a dollar or two.

It's easier to figure the shipping in the selling price. That way, both buyer and seller are happy with the deal.
