The Avast Anti Virus

I just got a new laptop and I downoaded Avast this morning.
It says I have 30 days to register. They are trying to get me to pay 20 or 30 bucks a year for Avast.
Do you have to register, and do you have to pay or can you keep getting it for free?

Depends on which one you installed.

I've been running the free version of Avast for years on my laptop, desktop, tablet and android phone.
    No problems.

Sounds like you installed the trial pack of the full version.
If you don't register by 30 days, you'll end up with just the antivirus program.
Which is plenty for everyday light surfing on internet.

Even the free version requires registration, and re-registration each year.

Make sure you are hitting the right buttons.[:)]

Yes there is a free version but you still have to register it. I use Avast free on all 3 of our computers with good luck. When I used to use pay ones like Norton and McAfee I got viruses!

I have the Avast pro Internet security, any problems just call them. I think I paid $40 for it last year. $150 a pop to get your puter cleaned around here.

You can keep getting it for free.

Zone Alarm can be better though, depending on what you do with your computer.

Avast is an excellent free AV program. AVG is good also but I prefer Avast. I have had it on my laptop for 4 years now and have had no problems. I travel out of the country a lot with my laptop and Avast has stopped some bad bugs that got other peoples computers messed up..

You have to re-register and renew each year for the free version. I does use some bandwidth when you boot up the machine to update its self.

Do a bing search for Microsoft Security Essentials. It's a free virus software from Microsoft with free updates and does a great job. Doesn't choke the resources down either.

I have heard good things about the Microsoft system. But I use Google chrome and I read where the Microsoft system doesn't get along too well with Google chrome.

I had it one time on a 30 day trail...Didn't like, so I switched to AVG free version on all my computers. I also have malwarebytes free version.

It is worth exactly what you paid for it.

    NOTHING.

Get a real one. (and not Nortons or McAfee either.... )

I used Avast for a couple years but have been using Microsoft SE for the last year and a half or so ... you hardly how it's there until it finds something.
