Bilge Pumps as aerators?

Has anyone built their own livewell?

I'm planning on building one for my boat. Using a drop in liner. Can you submerge a bilge pump and plumb it into a spray bar and use it as an aerator? I'm planning on using a Rule 360gph pump and something like a 20gal tub. I don't plan on building it as a normal livewell, where it pumps fresh water in, but as one that recirculates and aerates the water that I fill the tank with. I know that, overtime, the water will warm, I could just take some out and add fresh water at anytime. Any advise or help is appreciated. Is this feasible?

I have 2 that I built, we use them for live shrimp when fishing the gulf. Work very well , keep the screens clean and they will last forever. One of mine is almost 10 years old and have never had an issue, for the piping I used 1/2 PVC . I am using marine ice chest for the live well , put the pump on the left side with an 8" rise with a 90 and a straight piece 24" long. Drilled 2 holes every inch shooting water straight down, find some dense netting and tie it to the PVC and weight it down if using it for shrimp. This will give them something to cling to and wont tire out and die. Very easy to build and maintain, for a good 12v dc supply , you can make a cradle on the side to hold a motorcycle battery and it will provide several hours of use.

Awesome! That's exactly what I was planning on doing as far as trying to make my own spray bar. When done fishing for the day I was going to use the pump to pump out most of the water, then just lift the tub and dump it.

Doesn't the motorcycle battery get weaker after charging and draining it over and over again? How long would a marine battery last?

I use one and have it in a large ice chest.
Same thing as tneff's set up, works great.
