that was a major contributing factor!!! I have a take home car, but that could change if gas gets high enough.

Yep I almost cried filling up my gas tank...bad thing is it was on the 1/2 mark. I figure a moped will get me where I'm goin for cheap...Just gotta find one priced reasonable, all the local ones are expensive cause the drunks buy them, break them, then buy another.

not my style, but anything on two wheels is better than anything on four so mazeltov!

if i learned anything from my wreck, its that the axiom "dress for the crash, not for the ride" is arguably the best advice in the whole wide world of motorcycling.

Yup......full-face helmet for me as well.

Years ago, I responded to a M/C accident. Rider and his g/f both wearing open face helmets. She landed on her face......or what was left of it. [xx(]

    I'll never forget that day......ever. [:(]

yeah I've seen some gruesome ER photos of a guy missing his nose and lower jaw form riding with a skid lid.

I don't know if I would feel comfortable riding with OUT a helmet, even if it were legal.

    +1..

I cringe when I see those kids on their 600s in shorts and a t-shirt

tried the cruiser thing once, bought a lowrider custom and it just didn't stimulate me the way a sport/touring bike does. Pretty to look at but boring to ride, especially in the twisties IMO.

But with the MPG for that thing he may pass me but I will go by as he is filling up.[:o)]

When it was tested it got 40MPG. But with the current fuel that is available you will be lucky to get 35MPG. If you get into the throttle it will drop from there.

PS would think about adding an inline filter to the fuel line. New fuel is not as clean as the old stuff.

And......no matter how hot it is out, I always wear leather gloves.

When a person falls off a bike, they most always tend to extend their arms / hands out in fornt of them to break the fall.

Even a thin pair of leather gloves will work wonders.

+1 on the gloves, I wear the ones with the finger tips cut out, helmet, jeans and Boots.

Tried the fingerless gloves. But went back Bugs really hurt on bare skin. Rocks kicked up by trucks really really hurt.

every time i rode i wore my armored coat, armored gloves, leather boots and of course a helmet.

i considered buying armored pants more than once and in retrospect i wish i had. i went down just wearing jeans. i shudder to think what my legs would have looked like had i not been wearing those, but armored pants would have prevented the damage to my knees.

If fuel economy was my sole reason for purchase I wouldn't have bought a 1000 cc sport/touring bike. With a 5.5 gal tank it should travel pretty far

$3300, which is high retail but it is in sharp condition, it was just serviced with a new battery, and while it is at the shop its getting a new rear tire which is $200+...he was asking $3700, so I paid $3100 and add $200 for the tire. It was a consignment bike, one owner not even any paint chips from highway riding. hard to find around here

Nice! Not a sport bike rider myself, I stick to the cruisers but it looks like you got a bargain on that one. I can't wait for the weather to allow me to get back in the saddle with the price of gas these days. I won't touch the car or truck unless the weather turns really bad. My bike gets 56 mpg and my wife's gets around 65 mpg. Full face helmets for both of us too.

Thanks!!! Its not a sport bike, it's a sport/touring..and trust me there is a difference. The seating position between a CBR1000F and a CBR1000RR is significantly different, it actually has a more upright posture than you expect when you sit on it. If you look at the first pic you can see that the triple trees are about 3-4 inches higher and an inch or two back towards the tank more than you would find on a R1 or your typical sport bike.

I always felt more in control especially in the rain when riding learned forward rather than back in a cruiser type position. I suppose it is what your used too. I still haven't got it yet, waiting on the tire to come in. [:(]

there is nothing like a full fairing bike to keep the wind from buffeting on you.

Nice bike! Don't be dumb on it. A guy I know got arrested on a honda CBR600RR for doing 174 in a 60.. Can you say Felony? Oh, he didn't stop. Turns out those police chargers are quick.. He thought he was superman, he never has rode a bike again as he thinks he will get into more trouble, and never has ran from a cop again. May outrun a cop, never outrun a radio.

I'm a Police Lieutenant....I don't do stuff like that, I enjoy my career. Now when I was a teenager I'd have killed myself on something like this, but today not so much.

Bikes typically go ALOT faster than the riders capability. Based on what I have seen over 15 years there are very few riders that can handle those speeds consistently for a prolonged period. Most of the time all you have to do is push them a little bit and they'll end of wrecking. That's why there are very motorcycle pursuits in my area, because they usually kill themselves going way past their capabilities.

Just a bit of advice. Never use a hose to wash a bike. You'll get water in places that you never knew existed.

I use a bucket of water, a sponge or a rag. Controlling where the water goes is the secret.

I know, they get ridden in the rain, but it's not the same effect.

A garden hose will quickly kill a bike. Pieces will rust in a matter of little time.

    BTW....a very nice bike. [^]

only used it to rinse the wheels, they were covered with grease and grime...wiped down the rest

There are just too many variables to ride a bike that hard on the street. other traffic, bad road conditions, etc.

Do 174 on the street and its not a matter of if you'll die, but when.
