Bone cyst removal, anyone had it done?

My 5 year old has had a bone cyst in his upper arm, we found that out after he broke his arm a year and a half ago. it healed up pretty nice but 2 months ago he fell at school and was in alot of pain and they x-rayed it again and found the bone was pretty much hollow again and the Doctors decided he needed surgery to repair it or another break is imminent.

Anyway they are gonna take bone from his hip and put it in where the cyst is, the doctor says he has had 100% success rate with this and is a simple outpatient prodcedure. We are traveling about 6 hours away to have this done Monday morning. They are gonna keep him overnight just because the long distance we are traveling to make sure he is OK.

My questions:(after weeding through the Internet research isn't turning up most of my questions)

How painful was the aftermath of the surgery?

How long was the recovery?

The Doctor makes it sound like it is relatively painless and quick procedure but when the are taking bone out of one place and putting it in another I can't see it not being painful.

Just worried about my little guy I guess.

Anyone else have any experience with this?

I have no experience in this. But I will say a prayer for the little guy tonight.

My guess is,the "donor" site will hurt long after the repair is healed....
    All the best to y'all..

I have a cyst in the bone in my jaw. They will not operate on me because i have had so much surgery and radiation in the face. I will say this though sometimes my jaw hurts so bad i want to die. Hope the little fellow gets fixed fast. Prayers asked.

I haven't had it done, but I know several people including my mom that have. Follow the doctors orders, they may give him a calcium/manganese? supplement to speed the healing. If they don't, ask about it. The donor sight will have more pain than the graft sight. Takes a couple of weeks to heal up, a youngster probably less.
