Ruger Mini-14 Under Rated?

This seems to be the case among those who only shoot one a couple times and never really become used to the gun.Mine has served me well I have 2 Mini-14 .223's a .222 and a Mini-30 7.62x 39.With cheap crappy mags the guns sometimed tend to studder a bit,but so does alot of Rifles. There far from target rifles but out to 200yrds I can punch holes in a T-6 target all day.Ive got several Factory Mags about 7 10 RD Mason Mags and even some junk USA Mags that may work in one but not the other.I can usually tell if the Mag is not compatible with the gun by the way it locks up.If Ruger hadnt changed the dimensions of the Mag well so many times maybe it would have swept LEA by storm as Ruger had hoped.I didnt really need them but I bought 4 40 RD PMI Mags which are supposed to be OEM for the Mini-14 for many yrs and I have heard nothing but good things about PMI Mags. Can some of you tell me how well the PMI Mags are in 40 RD configuration.Whats your opinion on the Mini-14 Rifle?

Big Daddy my heros have always been cowboys, they still are it seems
www.fourfourmag.com has some mini-30 Mags at a good price if Im not mistaken.Plus the mini-14 cost about half as much as an AR-15 thats one advantage for someone wanting a good Rifle who cant spend $1000.00 on one.gskyhawk let us know how you like your Rifle when you get it out?And BTW they share one of the AR-15 faults, and that is they must be kept clean to function reliably.Good Luck!!

no end to the ban here in ny.wish we could our congresscritters too.
ARs have little pins, springs, o-rings and sundry other small, easily lost parts.
Minis have 2; the op rod spring(over a foot long), and the bolt hold open spring(vestigial remnant of progenitor).
ARs need a pipe cleaner over a foot long to clean the gas tube, sound like somebody's bashing a 55-gallon drum(next to your head) when fired, and are persnickety when it comes to ammo (try some heavy bullets and see what I'm talking about).
Minis (at least my 3 copies) are trenchermen when it comes to feeding time, fling heavier bullets than 55 grainers more accurately, come to point more easily, and have lots of accessories (not to say that you can't hang all kinds of useless crap all over either gun), and only cost $400.
My only concession to the black rifle craze was after the DC sniper got caught, I bought a Bushie. More to help out the Mfr. than to acquire a super-deadly, evil-looking safe queen. And it cost twice what a mini would have; even on GB!

So I say yes, it is under-rated.
