AD at Kalifornia gunshow

Orange County gun show. I arrived at the scene of an accidental discharge shortly after it happened at about 2 pm this Sunday.
The area had been cordoned off with yellow tape & the Sherrif's deputies were checking all of the dealers guns to see if any others were loaded.
The dealer was sitting in a chair & the paramedics were working on his leg.
The people who were in the area said the dealer handed the rifle
(guessed to be a .223) to a prospective customer who then pulled the trigger.
I always check any gun handed to me & that sometimes seems to irk a dealer but this clearly shows the need for such action.

Dealers usually check the chamber in gun shops but they often don't at gun shows, although there's far more opportunity for somebody to pick up a gun and sneak a round in. The tables are too long and there's too much activity. Of course, the looky-loo didn't have the sense to point the gun in a safe direction to dry fire, either; or he grabbed it by the grip and stuck his finger inside the guard, which is at least as dumb. Anyway, neither was on his (or her) toes. And of course, the liberals probably think they can pass a law now and prevent all accidents... [:D] I'm guessing the statistics will show they have FAR more injuries through accidents in their swimming pools and sports cars than at their gun shows, so in order of priority those should be banned first.

At the local shop, an owner will check a gun, give it to me, take it back, check it again, wipe it down, and place it back in the case. If I want to see it again five minutes later, even though no one else has handled it, it is the same procedure. I've become accustomed to the same regime.

things like this are why all guns at the local gunshow are required to have a plastic wire tie threw the action.
most tables have a few extra so they can cut them off to show a prospective buyer and then replace them afterward

What kind of moron would hand a loaded gun to a prospective buyer? That seller should be barred from selling at any gunshow! It's just that kind of stupidity that makes us all look bad!

And some people have a problem with gun laws in California.A perfect example of why Californians are too stupid and too irresponsible to have firearm rights.

Very intelligent comment, Salzo. Such insight - and to think we get to hear it here at Gunbroker!

I am surprised and dismayed that, after one reported acidental discharge, you three would condemn the whole state and everyone in it. I guess that each of you don't believe anything like this could happen in your respective states? I thought we all had a common bond, no matter where each of us lives. I can see now that, to some people at least, any aspect of existence that does fit their particular view of how people should live is fair game for ridicule and censure. What a great group of people.

LOL from now on when anyone posts about sumpin dumb a person does in a state other then California I'm gonna have to belittle and make fun of everyone in that state, because 2 idiots in a state of 35 million are obviously indicative of the ENTIRE state.

I have now heard that the bullet struck the cement floor and the dealer was hit in the leg by a ricochet or fragments. Not serious.

I couldn't tell for myself. Everyone who was there at the time it happened that I talked to said the injury was not serious but they disagreed about the exact nature of the wound. The reports ranged from the cement chips & bullet fragments to the bullet going through the meaty part of the calf. There didn't seem to be any rush to get him to a hospital.

If people would just follow the basic rules of firearms, this accident would not have happened! Why is it so difficult to simply verify for yourself that every firearm you handle is empty? Why is that such a difficult concept for some people to comprehend!?! I do agree with some though, it seems that more accidents\shootings occur when there is the possibility for legislation to be passed. It almost makes me wonder if some people in washington are having accidents occur to suit there own plans. The timing on incidents just seems to perfect sometimes... But then again that could just be me being paranoid.

The gunshow at Costa Mesa (Orange) is a Crossroads of the West Gun Show. I was a regular seller at their Southern California shows until all the California State laws made it unprofitable for me. Mostly I sold firearms parts and accessories, some non firearm impulse items and rarely some firearms (thru a FFL). Now I sometimes go as a buyer and I was there Saturday. The Crossroads people take a "my way or the highway" attitude of firearms safety. In the past if a seller was a safety hazzard he was gone! When I put a firearm up for sale at a Crossroad show I was required to use a plastic tie. The seller should have used a tie and checked the chamber. It appears that he didn't. I have heard rumors that some sellers have checked the chamber and later with the next propective buyer checked again and found a round in the chamber. Has anyone else heard or know about this?

Not all people have difficulty understanding firearm safety.
......Only californians. If it was up to me, there wouldnt be one firearm in the entire state.

you shouldn't criticize an entire state based on the stupidity of many. While Kalifornia may be a hotbed of liberalism and many stupid people, it isn't fair to deprive them of constitutional RIGHTS. Some people just need to be reminded that it's called the bill of RIGHTS not the Bill of Priviledges.
