I went to Gander earlier to kill some time. While I was there I thought I would get some powder for reloading my 7mm Rem. so I get three pounds of IMR 7828 and then I noticed that the price had been blacked out with a marker. So I asked for a price check and they wanted $39.99 for a pound of powder!!
I knew that they were high but man now they have gone completely crazy.
I can get it at the local gun club for $22 per lb. I won't go back.

.45 Acp mega paks for 149.00 for 250 Rnds. The used guns are priced higher than what I can buy new at my local ma&pa store and online. They had a used 500 S&W for 1025.00 and the guy at the counter said the prices are firm.I told him no thanks...........
out there that think the Gander
Mountain "used gun trade-in" policy
sucks? Took a perfectly good
Ithaca Model 37 12 ga. in to trade
on an 7600 Rem. carbine (the best
37 of have of 7 of them). Guy
looked at it and remarked "nice
gun", then looked closer and saw it
had one slide bar(standard) and
said that Gander Mtn. had a policy
that they could not take a gun with
just one bar because (get this) they warranty all used guns and if
the single bar breaks, they have a
warranty claim. I told him that I
had brought along a newish Model 94
but would'nt bother bringing it in
cause it only had one lever, one
trigger, and one barrel and surely
did'nt want them to take a chance on something like that! Incidently, this is'nt the first
time. I've taken NIB rifles in and
had the yokel look them up in their
Blue Book of Used Guns and offer
50% of listed used price!
Man what a store. Nice people, and lots of toys.[:)][:D][:)][:D][:)]
The "local" Cabelas is a 6 hour round trip for me. But it is where I fill 90% of my hunting needs.
Gander Mountain's ammo prices are about 20 percent higher than Wal-Mart, but the selection contains brands and types you'll never see at Wal-Mart.
Gander Mountain carries not one single item for the fly fisherman. Being a fly fisherman, I find that outright strange, not to say short-sighted. Bass Pro shops has an entire department dedicated to fly fishing, and while their prices are high, at least you can usually find what you need. One other store in town also carries fly fishing equipment, so I can get by, but it just isn't right. If it's an outdoor super-store, it ought'a have fly fishing stuff.
On the other side of the scale though, I carried my Walther P-22 in for gunsmithing (which I subsequently lost, while flyfishing), and was surprised when the gunsmith called me a couple of weeks later to tell me it was fixed. When I asked how much I owed he told me....he had simply packaged my pistol in with a shipment of other guns going to S/W, and they had fixed it at no charge, under their lifetime warranty. So Gander Mountain charged me nothing. They could have gotten away with hitting me pretty hard for that, and I'd never have known the difference. I had a pizza delivered to the guy for lunch the next Monday.
Finally, Mrs. Sahagan generally goes shopping with me, and as long as she's happy, I can take my time looking around. Gander Mountain doesn't keep her happy for near long enough. I always leave figuring there's some treasure somewhere or other in the store I've missed because of being in a hurry.

The local store where I get my flyfishing equipment is DUNN'S SPORTING GOODS, on the same road as Gander Mountain, but further west. They've even got a sales guy who loves to fly fish as much as I, and whose advice has been on point everytime I've dealt with him.
I was looking for some shooting bags the other day. The choices at Gander Mountain were limited, and started at $24.95. I bought a filled Caldwell's front bag, and an empty (I filled it with a mix of lead shot and fine grain lime) rear bag, at Dunn's for three or four bucks less than just the front bag at GM. On the other hand, ammo was about the same as GM, so it was back to Wal-Mart at Benton for that. Apparently, our local Wal-Marts aren't reordering certain types of ammo when they sell out. I've bought all of Murray's .22 Magnum Remington 33gr. Accutip-V shells, and nearly all their CCI Hyper-V .22LR ammo. I have bought all of Benton's .22LR CCI Hyper-V shells.
They may re-order, but it's looking iffy.
Shucks, I don't get to Paducah often, so when I do go, I shop around. Of course, time for me passes really slowly between trips to Nashville and BASS PRO SHOPS.

Cabela's beats out Gander Mountain and Bass Pro! They have a awesome gun department!
They might on selection but thier prices are WAY higher than our Gander Mountain.
We recently got a Cabelas nearby. I'll probably never go back to Gander Mountain or Bass Pro.

ALl in all, it has it's place in the market.
Some of you young'uns may not know that Gander Mt. used to send out catalogs and take mail orders. That was over 30 years ago. Back then there was no place around my home town to buy anything much for reloading and shooting other than ammo. Got my Lyman Spar-t and dies, and all kinds of goodies from them. Real exciting to get that Gander box in the mail. They stopped mail order before the internet revolution. I sure missed them. Now we have a store within 40 miles. I love it. It's well stocked good prices and lots of sales. Bass Pro is super but it's 100 miles from me. Doesn't have 1/4 the guns Gander has. I guess its just where you are and the people that they are able to hire. Now if we could just get a Cabela's. But now I don't need stuff too often, can't shoot and hunt much anymore. Easy to order online too, but now and then I like to look at and pick up things even if I don't buy. I like Gander Mt.
I believe Gander Mtn.s catalog dept. was bought by Cabela's a few yrs. ago. We used to get their catalogs, then they were replaced by Cabela's. We now have a Cabela's on the west side, a bass Pro on the east side, and no small shops left. We usually go to Sportsmans warehouse, its cheaper than either of the others.

I live in Northern Illinois.
Gander Mountain also used to go bankrupt every 7 years or so and stick it to there suppliers pretty good. That was when they had mostly mail order business. There retail stores remind me of a big warehouse full of "eye candy". With nothing I actually want or need!
I'll stick with Cabelas. I feel their selection and customer service are top notch.
