can be prevented by requiring voters to have a picture ID...what could possibly be wrong with identifying the voter?
passport, drivers license, federal ID card...credit card with a picture...how hard would it be?

I think the state of Washington has plans to go to mail in ballot only so the photo ID wouldn't help.

Colorado's been pushing mail ballots for several years. Frankly, I like them, because I can look at something I'm unfamiliar with and do some additional research prior to voting, and I like them despite the risk for fraud.

I don't see why it is unfair to demand that a voter present i.d. to verify that he/she is, indeed, the person that he/she claims prior to voting. The ruling had more to do with placing an "undue burden" on people who could not afford a photo i.d.

I'm sorry, but are there really people out there who can't afford a photo i.d. who are registered to vote? I find that tremendously difficult to believe.

When you look at all of the other things that you have to have some form of photo ID in order to be able to do, you have to wonder why anyone who did not have a political reason would object to it.

Several of the proposals that I have seen require the issuing state to pay for the ID for anyone who cannot afford it. I don't much care for mandates for tax paid items, but this one might be worth it if it helps to cut down on voter fraud.

Back when the first votes were cast in this country they didn't even know what a photo was.

Agreed, but the population was so small, and probably so static in a given area, that it was highly likely that the people running the local election knew who you were by sight.[:)]

When I went to vote a few years ago, I walked in and gave my name. They said "we don't have those pages of the signature book with us today!"
They took out a blank signature page, asked my name and wrote it on the page and had me sign it twice. Never asking for an ID I asked, how do you know it's me? and they said.........................I know you guys won't believe me!!.....They actually said, "I compared your two signatures"!!!!!!!!!! The ones I just signed in front of the election judges!! I called the county clerk and she acted like I was imposing on her time! The newspaper had a ball with it!!!!
