Was Kennedy married twice?

My Dad maintains that JFK was married to someone before Jackie, that it didn't last long, that it was rather hush hush due to his catholic background, greater stigma of divorce at the time, etc. Just out of curiosity I googled it and came up with bubkis. Nada, zip. Just wondering if anyone can back my dad up on this?

Likely because before Jackie, JFK was married to Lady Bird.

    Nope!

Inga Arvad (1913-1973) was born in Denmark and is noted for her romantic relationship with John F. Kennedy in 1942, nineteen years before he was sworn in as President of the United States. She was suspected of being a spy for Nazi Germany. It was rumored that she had had affairs with Hermann G?ring and Adolf Hitler, the latter of which she described as "very kind, very charming".

    Romance with John F. Kennedy

As an enemy of the Kennedy family, J. Edgar Hoover, then acting director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, sought blackmail material to exert political influence on the Kennedys. While John F. Kennedy served as an ensign in the US Navy's Office of Naval Intelligence, he and Arvad began a romantic relationship. Hoover had his men photograph the couple and record their activities in hotel rooms with hidden microphones.

Kennedy nicknamed Arvad "Inga-Binga" and she nicknamed him "Honeysuckle".

Hoover hoped that Arvad, already suspected of being a Nazi spy for her activities with high-ranking Nazis in the 1930s, would incriminate Kennedy enough so that he could have Kennedy discharged from the Navy and lay ruin to the Kennedy political dynasty. However, Kennedy was suddenly reassigned to a desk job in South Carolina in January, 1942 and the relationship ended.

She went on to marry American actor Tim McCoy in 1945.

She was the closest to a first marriege but Papa Joe would NEVER allowed it! [8D]

His dad Joe Kennedy pulled some strings and the marriage was annulled, because she was alleged to be a German double agent.

Yeah, and without Joe Kennedy we wouldn't have the security and Exchange Commission! And very possibly we wouldn't have had the stock market crash of 1929!!

I read a book about the Kennedys a few years back.
The guy reported a story about a romance that JFK had down at the compound in West Palm Beach. This was not the Danish girl. The story was that Kennedy had married the girl without Papa Joe's knowledge.
When Joe found out a few days later, he pulled strings to make the marriage disappear.
Supposedly a reporter found out about it. He went to the West Palm Beach courthouse to check the records, and there was a page from the record book missing.
Anyway, it was a pretty good book. It said that Kennedy had hired two call girls on the White House staff, supposedly as secretaries. Their Secret Service nicknames were "Fiddle" and "Faddle".
Supposedly JFK and his brothers Robert and Ted would frequently have wild mid-day nude pool parties at the White House with these two girls, and several others.

Joe Kennedy was the first head of the SEC. The SEC did not exist in 1929.

There is another good Kennedy story that I remember from that book.
In 1960, the key to JFK winning the nomination was to win the West Virginia primary.
In those days the sheriffs held enormous political power in W. Va. The Sheriff's endorsement might be enough to win the county for a candidate. Moreover, the Sheriff designated how the ballot would be printed. The candidate whose name appeared first on the ballot usually won.
Hubert Humphrey was JFK's main rival. His aides had gone around the state and bribed every Sheriff with $10 grand. On every courthouse front lawn was a Humphrey sign.
The Kennedy campaign fought back with bigger bribes. According to the book, Ted Kennedy drove around the state with shoeboxes full of cash in the trunk of his car. Each shoebox contained $50 grand. In a few days, he had bribed every Sheriff in the state. The Humphrey signs on the courthouses came down, Kennedy signs went up. Kennedy's name appeared on the top of the ballot. Kennedy won W. Va.
Who knows if the story is true, but as hard driven, and as rich as Joe Kennedy was, it could be true.

I believe Joe Kennedy also threatened to pull all his "advertising" dollars from the big magazines (Life) if his son was not on the front cover of their magazines. Oh yeah, and his great thesis that turned into a best seller was penned my Joe Kennedy employees and every Kennedy employee was required to purchase X amouunt of his book. They say the cieling at the Kennedy compound sags to this day from the weight of all John Kennedy's "best selling" books still stored up there!!! Whether it's true or not...........Who cares!! It makes for great stories!! I wonder what Mary Jo Kopecne would be doing today if not for that tragic accident...........
