I just landed a 1973 Rayson Craft 18' VDrive with Holman and Moody Ford 460. A cool old classic flat bottom boat.
Needs a bunch of work, but we will get her done! I'll post a couple pictures tomorrow....

everyone asking him back to the forum
. he had a lot of performance car and boat stories / experience
I recognize the Holman Moody name from drag racing days gone by ..
It had a 400 Gray Marine engine (IIRC) that was mounted in between twin leather wrapped "cockpits" with beautiful swing open mahogany doors!
It cruised through the water like a fine limousine!

I helped my older brother restore a fine old 1940's Century mahogany inboard runabout back in the early '70's.

An old Mahogany Chris Craft is just classy and elegant! Nothing like the sound and ride in an old Chris.
Really The Cadillac of all boats in my world.
The Rayson Craft is more like the AC Cobra of boats.
If you ever get a chance to read The Legend Of Chris Craft you will love it! Great book and great history.....
Dennis would be your guy but he has been away for a while

Dennis is one of the first people I thought of. I think this thing would be right up his alley. Hopefully we can pry him out of hiding with some hot rod boat talk.....[;)]
how about a pic of that motor![:p]
It isn't pretty right now!
It needs a lot of cleaning, paint, and polishing.
But I do have this picture:

Just installed the headers last year....
A close friend of mine in PA is a speed boat junkie and has owned several fast boats. He has another friend who is into fast boats so there is always competition between the two. He latest speed boat is a retired off shore racing boat with a pair of big * Chevy big blocks.
No, I won't ride in it!
He runs Lake Raystown in PA with it, he is an extremely cool guy and if you approach him he will gladly show the boat.
Heres my old 84 Baja Berkley jet with a 454 roller motor...

I bet the paint on the gold duster was something to see back in it's prime. Does it run?
I remember the boat well from the 70's. The original owner kept it at the marina I worked at in the summer. I just remember it being SO COOL!
We hit it lightly with a buffer, and we think with wet sanding and fresh clear it will look fantastic! I love the old big metal flake boats!!
No, it doesn't run yet, but you can bet it will by next Spring!
I grew up around boat racing back in the 50s and early 60s at my Grandpa's Three Rivers Boat Dock in Knoxville, TN.
Those are some great pics Smitty! Thanks for posting! Have more?
