Auction # 786591853 Marlin M1893
I consigned this rifle and I am not all that pleased with the sellers description. So I will add these comments.
I don't know if there is a place to look up shipping info for Marlin guns and uptain factory to buyer data like S&W and Colt have. Un-researched, but this gun has been old school professionaly modified to shoot the .410 cartridge.
I believe it may have well been a gun used by one of the several Western theme traveling shows back around the turn of the century. I know that such exhibition shooting in these shows took place with shot loads, and or guns modified to shoot shot cartridges such as the .410, or the 9mm shotgun rounds. Riding horseback and shooting glass balls out of the air was one common use for such a modification or shot shell usage. Gun or rider falling off a horse would be an easy way to damage a stock.
I have nothing to prove that this gun was used in exhibition shooting, but it does make sense for two reasons. First, the workmanship for conversion and repair is early. Second is I can't think of a good reason why a common shooter would do such a modification.(leaving a 26" octagon barrel makes for a lousy carry in the field hunting shotgun)
As always buy the gun, and not the story, but I wanted to give all a heads up to at least look and give thought to this unusual Marlin 1893.

There is a link to your auctions.
I like the 520, those are cool shotguns.

I saw nothing wrong with the sellers description, precise & to the point, anything else would be speculation. Nice rifle [;)]
Agree.
Thanks - you are correct, I was speculating but thought it might at least give someone with search resources the chance to look for providence behind that speculation. It is an interesting firearm and "IF" someone could trace it to a early Wild West show use it would be a nice addition to a Marlin collection.
I have no idea if that could be done and I am well aware of the buy the gun, not the story as I am sure most all collectors are also.
The person I consigned it to likely knows better than me what to put in for information.
But, I like unusual and odd firearms. It probably does have a great story. If not, one needs to be made up!![;)][:D]
