Heard on the news that the Connecticut commission for HS athletics will suspend any HS football coach for running up the score. Seems they don't think a team should run up the score because it might hurt the feelings of the players on the other team.[xx(]

Pathetic. Why keep score at all? Seems they have forgotten that loosing still teaches you something as long as your willing to learn it.

I remember suffering from trying to score in high school!

As I recall, I had to watch out for irate fathers and big brothers!
... yes, and even coaches - "NEVER BEFORE A GAME, DUMMY!"
    was his warcry!

Scoring was ALWAYS a problem for me in the early years![:D]

I'm not saying that they shouldn't run up the score. I'm with you on this subject. Guess I didn't make that clear. Sorry.[:I]

its dumb to run up the score on purpose...a good lead is the right time to give junior players a chance to improve...now, if the third string is kickin your butt you need a new coach

Scott is SO right....the junior players get the practice they need during a real game if the coach isn't being a rear end and running things like just another kid on the sideline.

I'm all for letting the jr. players get a chance to play. What I'm saying is that to suspend a coach for running up the score for whatever reason is pathetic. Loosing can teach you important things. Learning to loose with dignity is an important lesson that like it or not, you will use in life.

I think that if they want to spare the other teams feelings, at 50 points, then maybe they should put in place a 7 touchdown mercy rule and end the game, rather than punish the winning coaches for competing at their best from start to finish.

I say parents need to stop acting like p**sies and let their kids have fun in high school. Who cares if you loose by 7 points or 42? It just means that you need to work as a team more. Maybe they would if the bullets started flying around them and lives were at stake... Heck, it works for the Army.

It's high school football, not war. Anyone who has played sports knows that there will be times when the teams are horribly mismatched. Just because you play harder and work harder does not mean you are going to be able to beat a team with a superstar. The coach needs to set an example for the players and when a score becomes lopsided, all the players should get an opportunity to play. Did anyone see that clip of the autistic basketball player who finally had a chance to get into the game and went on a scoring spree? One can be a winner without humiliating the other team. You never know who you might encounter later in life.
