There are two switches above the kitchen sink, one for the disposal and one for the light. I have lived here for 10 years, you would think that I could remember which was which, but have never gotten it right....... Sad......

Remove light switch and replace it with one that has a LED in it. It is easy to remember the lit one is the light.....works for me!

"But I've never gotten it right"

If yer always hittin' the wrong switch..not to worry. Here's the deal..

Take the left switch and put it where the right one is, and the right switch, and place it where the left one is.

Dont'cha wish everything was this simple?

I have the same set up. One day I was cleaning the gold fish bowl with my 3 year old daughter's help. The fish went in the disposer. I hit switch but the wrong one. I was horrified. I regained my composure and told my daughter I killed her fish. I was near tears. She simply said "That's okay daddy." Then we went to the pet store.

Take a yellow Sharpie and draw a light bulb [or a capital-L] above the appropriate switch! [;)]
It's being willing. I found out early that most men, regardless of cause or need, aren't willing. They blink an eye or draw a breath before they pull the trigger. I won't. ~ J.B. Books

I've move the disposal switch to make it most convenient to use with turning the cold water for the disposal, but under the cabinet.

In the past I have also moved the light switch to have it right there and handier.

Had also made changes to the switch: white for light and red for the disposal.

Have seen folks put a plastic plate across the top of the disposal switch also.

bpost's suggestion is a great one. Know folks that just keep LED lights above the cabinets going through the low light hours, like "night-lights".

The one you need is the second one you try.

The truely bad part is, I wired the switches myself. I guess the bright side is I will be able to hide my own easter eggs this year![:)]

Just put a dot with a black marker on the switch toggle.

Or glue a bead on it so you can find it in the dark.

We remember the stuff we need to remember.

tape a thumb tack to the one that does damage if you flip it on by mistake.

Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche

    Dang
I'm not alone in this dilemma, I even changed the disposal switch to a black one ( or was it the light [:(!] ) and its still a crap shoot wether I get the right one or not

I did that for the first year in the new house.

Took a blue sharpie and colored it in...now I stand there and try to remember if blue means light or disposal [:D]

Now see I don't have that problem. My house is old and never had a disposal installed[:o)]
