Meet Abigail. Abigail came to me 1 week after Hurricaine Charley.
Abigail has a long and interesting history.
Abigail comes from the "Kentucky Infantry, 13th Regiment, Company H".
My father-in-law purchased Abigail, as a rusting and rotting hulk, from a gentlemen in upstate New York back in the 60s.
This gentlemen had purchased Abigail in less disrepair from another gentlemen, with the intention of resoting her.
My father-in-law lugged the rotting hulk to Florida when he moved here in the 70's.
Abigail sat in the back room of his shop for years never being touched.
Then a friend of ours spotted it, he was into Civil War Battle reinactments.
He asked my father-in-law if he would let him take Abigail and restore her,
as long as he could use her in reinactments.
My father-in-law allowed it.
After about 3 years Abigail's restoration was finished except for the wheels.
My father-in-law finally found a pair leaning against a fence at an old farm in central Florida.
He purchased them at a pretty price and they went over to be worked on
and assembled to the yoke for Abigail.
Six months later Abigail was brought to her new home in the gun shop for display.
Abigail was used in only one reinactment.
But every July 4th from 1998 to 2001 she would be taken down to the park and fired off
every 15 minutes to 1/2 hour during the county wide picnic and fireworks.
Since that time Abigail has been on display in my father-in-laws gun shop.

Friday, August 13, 2004; Hurricane Charley came rolling up Charlotte Harbor.
That day my father-in-laws shop nolonger was.
Saturday, August 21, 2004; Abigail was unburied from the rubble, still standing her ground.
She was dismantled, loaded into my truck and brought to my home for storage.
I ask one of the high school kids from across the street from me, if he would help me bring something into the house.
His eyes lite up when he saw a dismantled Abigail.
Then he was more surprised when he saw where she was from.
His family is originally from Kentucky.

Abigail now resides on my inclosed patio with her muzzle facing the front door [:D]

Not sure if they would like Abigail at the range[:p]
Probably would scare the rangers away [:p]

I believe they were considered 3lb.
The bore is very near 2".
Makes a nice retort. Shakes the ground for acres [:D]

Our reenacting unit has a CSA Williams Mountain Rifle. We have our monthly 'drill' at Stone Mountain Park here in metro Atlanta.

When we fire it, car alarms 1/4 mile away go off.

If your Abigail was used in a reenactment in Florida, it was probably at the Battle of Olustee, held every February. She's probably also fired a few rounds at us REBS!

Peter, in the 'War of Northern Aggression" also known as the 'Civil War', cannons fired a round called 'canister shot.' A can was filled with .69 cal lead balls, and fired at charging infantry.

At the Battle of Gettysburg, during Pickett's Charge, one US Artillery unit switched to canister shot when the Rebs were 100 yards away. Some places in the Federal line were reached, but not that part!

I like learning more on the war.
Nice to know there are informed people out there.
I would love to take Abigail out and fire her, but I would have to dismantle her again to get her out [xx(]

I know what else I would love to have here; a Quad .50 on a half track

    LOL ATF........[:D]

Hopefully we will get some pictures of Abigail doing her thing sometime.
Maybe I will load her into the truck one day and take her down to the range and just fire some salutes off [:p]
