A documentary about the beginning of the civil war is on now on PBS. Looks real good.

I dont trust the government to do anything right-thats especially true when it comes to historical documentaries.

Salzo look before you leap, this is not done by the government. This is the story of the war as told by a one who fought in it!! Nothing more and nothing less. Take it for what it is worth.

    A Union soldier?

To be fair and balanced, don't we need a southern opinion? [:D]

I'm sorry blackie, I know you're gonna read this! [;)]

It was pretty interesting, it was produced by a man here in Penna. It was filmed in nearby Coudersport, with some footage done in the Allegany National forest. It was made from the Diary of a man from Wisconsin who enlisted to fight in the Union Army. It told of the hardships endured by the men of both sides. 150 men signed up and 35 returned to Wisconsin three years later. It told of there march to Washington, to build fortifications, and then to Richmond where they received an humiliating * whooping. From there to most of the other major battles, including Gettysburg.
He told of fighting during the day and trading coffee for tobacco at night with the rebels they were fighting. It told of the battle packs they carried, what was in them. Many different uses for the bayonet.
How they were trained. It told of their capture and escape from the rebel forces. Basically most of the time this mans regiment were getting their * whooped by the rebels! It was diferent then most as it gave the perspective of the men who were actually doing the fighting and not that of some reporter observing.
I enjoyed it, and I have no idea how Salzo got the idea that this video was produced by the government! [?][?]

It wasn't on in Erie. Instead they had Lawrence Welk on. Wooeeee.
I think Salzo might have thought the documentary to be unconstitutional.[:D][:D][:D]
