Would you give 40K for this pistol?
I think I might want a carbon 14 date on the grips before purchase.

Nope! Do you realize how many guns you could buy with 40,000 dollars. That would be my route![:D]

Not me, but I would spring for this if I had the dough and could get one of the two! Just imagine if you ever found or stumbled across model number 1!

My brother dug one up simalar to that in the 60's in WA. or MO. No rear site on the frame (Rear site has a "V" grove cut in the hammer) No# 's, nothing.
    Think it is circa 1860.

HMMM wonder who much its realy worth?

A guy with four auctions under his belt is convinced it is the real deal. Well that sure eases my mind about spending $40,000. There were so few Walkers made that tracking the ownership should not be a problem. It wasn't like your average cowboy could afford one. That low of a number would seem like it would have to be a Texas Ranger's gun. I don't believe it is authentic. If it was they would have placed it with one of the big auction houses and promoted it for months before the auction.

The guys over on the cap and ball pistol forum are saying that there are two or three flaws with this pistol that convince them that this is a forgery.
Probably made by Pietta in Italy last year, and had some fake aging etc.
One guy has emailed the seller and accused him of fakery, no response.

Expected, but not given. Plus it would take weeks or even months to authenticate a non provenanced gun of that era. I've been told by experts that even they can be had by a good craftman using era parts from various guns to make one whole one.

I'd pay 3 bucks for it. Probably end up using it as a hammer. - Toe [8D]
