Good luck 777 is black powder, let me know where you shoot, so I won't.

there is a reason no one uses your method, primer seating has to be done gently, powder must be exact within 1/10 of a grain, bullet must be seated within 1/100 of exact depth, and MUST be crimped
i hope you where joking
Blackpowder or any of the substitutes- very simple. Fill case. Either to the top or nearly so; settle powder. Seat bullet to the powder. Done. You can play with fillers and wads and grease cookies all you want, but the bottom line is, whatever you put above the powder column, there can be no air between the bullet and the powder.
The hammer and ball approach may work, but you seriously need to invest in real reloading gear. A simple lee loader can be had for $15 that is slow but will do the job. And real bullets, not balls.

Hint: 45 cal bullets are .452-.454 a .44 mag requires bullets of .429-.430 [B)]
You are not going to get magnum performance using a black powder or a black powder substitute in a .44 mag case. Even the orginal 45 colt cases were "balloon head" to allow for more powder capacity and they still didn't reach todays magnum status. Accuracy depends on consistency in the powder charge, bullet seating depth and case tension on the bullet. All hard to achieve with a hammer and pliers.

At least get an original lee loader (15-$20)and a Hodgdon Annual Manual ($8).[^] http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=79404805
So far the strenth of that redhawks is probably what has allowed you to keep your fingers.
And nobody even mentioned the .45 ball...
I just figured he was shaving it to size when he hammered it in the case.[:D]
