Well, lets see.... two 1965 Oldsmobile 442's, a 1964 Oldsmobile Cutlass, and now a 1968 GTO........ I don't know where we'll put a one owner Ram Air III GTO, but I'll figure it out. [8D]

    Nice to see you back.

A shame it doesn't have the numbers matching engine in it. Did you get it or some powertrain for it? If not, then you've got a wide-open build ahead of you; restrained only by imagination, checkbook and the missus.[:D]

It is numbers matching. I have the original owners title from Missouri. I am struggling with the very issue you raise- keep it original or raise complete hell with it!

Sweet! That is always a conflict!

The boy and I are talking about another 442 build after we move to Texas. I love my '70 442s, but I'm thinking '66 or even '65 (if we can find one) Tri-Power.[:D]

Are either of your '65s L-69s?

Very nice Night Stalker! Not often you find them sitting in a field in that good of condition. I'm sure the guy didn't give it away.

Shoot, I thought you were going to stare at it.

    Being a '68, I'd keep it original.

If it were a non-numbers matching 69, I'd make it a Judge clone, put something nasty under the hood & update the suspension.

But I have virtually no knowledge of what is involved in any of that. I just think GTOs are the bee's pajamas.

pull the original engine and sit it in the garage on a pallet. Build a monster for raising hell, then if/when you decide to sell it, you still have the original numbers matching engine.[;)]

    I like that.
Then U take your time making the original engine back to as stock as possible.Might need .020-.030 over pistons but the rest might be still good..[:p]quote:Originally posted by JustC

I would build a stock appearing numbers matching engine that was loaded for bear internally. I am in the process of installing a 400 horse stock on the outside 312 in my '57 T-Bird. "Sleeper"

Yep, that's a 1964 389, tri-power, 4-speed car in the back. My car came out of a barn where she kept company with four other GTO's for 40 years. Here she is after her first bath....

might think about making a "survivor" , clean, polish and some mechanical. Restore/rebuild/hot rod is nice but so is original.

I was wondering the same thing about the bloomers displayed there. Not exactly what you would expect a guy to wear.

Not that there is anything wrong with that. [;)][:I][:D]

Did a little work on her today. Had my body guy come by and it should start a minor restoration in April. It is in good condition, but it looks better in the photos than once you're standing next to it.

I'm kind of feeling a bit guilty because my 1965 442 is still in storage waiting for a full rebuild as well.

If you have the original power train then I'd put it all back stock. But that's just me, you have an awesome hobby!! Wish I had the knowledge, patience and money for rebuilding/restoring a vehicle. Tried it once with a 78 CJ-5 lost a lot of money in that so I know better than to ever try again. Someday when I have the money I will buy someone else's completed project! [;)]

    Shilow:

It can be an expensive hobby, but you can really offset your costs by trading parts/pieces with others who frequent forums dedicated to whatever vehicle you want to restore. Even the more difficult parts are often found in those circles. Two weeks ago I picked up another Ram Air III hood and the Endura bumper to restore my car back to the original configuration (per PHS documentation). I needed the bumper to put my hidden headlights back together and although I don't need another Ram Air hood, I will eventually trade or offer to someone else who needs it.

I've discovered it's far better to start with a vehicle which is not a rusted mess and pay a little more because it will save you quite a bit of money during your restoration. If you have the time and patience, you can rebuild a car while you are still driving it.

This car is an original Ram Air car with some unique options, so I'll do my best to rebuild the factory HO 400 which has approximately 366hp and will be perfect for a reliable daily driver.
