question about 2 handguns?

I am wondering if anybody here has had experience with a Ruger P-97 or a Smith & Wesson Chiefs Special in .40s&w.The main thing I am wondering about is the reliability of the 2.I have a Smith & Wesson 5906 that has been totally reliable but dont know about the Chiefs Special in .40.I found a Ruger P-97 for $350.00 and a Chiefs Special for $425.00 which feels like it would fit the purpose better because its smaller but if the Ruger is a better gun I would also save money I want it for concealment. The Ruger is about the same size as my 5906 but a little slimmer and a hell of alot lighter. My question boils down to which is the better, more accurate, more reliable pistol.Sorry if I sound confused but I am very.I dont want to make a bad decision because I want to be cheap and save $75.00.Am looking to hear good and bad experiences with both of these guns.Thank You.

I own two of the P-97's and like other fans here, see no fault with them in any fashion. They shoot as good/better than I do! Have owned Rugers for well over thirty years and have yet to have a problem with the exception of a used one. It needed a new magazine release spring. About six bucks.

Do note, you can buy one here new at GB for about $329, plus your shipping and FFL, so you're about right on price it seems.

Sax and some of the S&W boys will say the same thing on their brand, and of course, are right as well. Comes down to your preference.

Luck to ya, doubt you'll go wrong in either direction.

If you are satisfied with the performance of your 5906, and it sounds like you are, I suggest you not make a change. A Smith & Wesson 5906 is as good a 9mm pistol ever made.

    My humble 2-cents worth,

I am very pleased with the 5906 but it is a little too heavy for what I have in mind.It gets very hot where I live and even more humid which do not leave thick heavy clothing to conceal a heavy gun so I need something smaller and lighter for that purpose but yes the 5906 has been a excellent pistol.

Welcome to the forum. I have a 6904 S&W 9mm that is just a sorry piece to have around. Shot the New Chiefs special in the 9mm and it was just as inaccurate. Don't get me wrong it is good at 10 yds to hit a 10" circle. Bought a Colt Pocket 9 and it does the trick. It weighs less and will hit pop cans at 20 yds consistantly.

I saw one Pocket 9 on the GB auction that was $675.00!!!!and the reserve was not met,it was started at $500.00.I think that is too rich for me,I did like the look of it and I really liked the look of a couple of the Colt .380's on there but they were alittle pricey as well.

APBT, I bought my Pocket 9 at a gun show recently and the gun was in the blue box, paperwork and was unfired. Spare clips are pricy( $30+ )each. Got it for $450.00 . I have noticed them on GB going for way more than that. Colt only produced the Pocket 9 in 1999. I am relieving my Colt Mustang Pocketlite .380 of any more carry duty now !! The Pocket 9 only weighs something like 17 oz. compared to the .380 at 12.5 oz.

I bought my CS40 for 350. It shoots very well, no FTF or FTE. wouldn't trade it for the world although for 515.00 I could have had a new one in .45.
