Freudian's 2004 Pumpkin

This one only took three hours, if you don't count the time it took to prepare the pattern.

Edit: The Web site where this was posted is no longer online, because I stopped renewing the domain name. (Apparently, editing your post bumps it to the top, even if it's seven years old.)

Kind of looks like my mother-in-law..

Stared at it for some time - is it the blue spirit from Ghost Busters II ??? Definately a ghost of some sort.. =o)

    Yes, beautiful carving =o)
There are a lot of good ones - that's one of the top ones.

I started doing pumpkins like this when I was about 13. Once I prepare the pattern, I scan it into the computer and play with it to make sure that it will look right when the colors are inverted. Then I can print it in any size I need.

This particular pumpkin is a banshee or ghost. Unlike the other pumpkins on my Web site, this one doesn't jump out at you. It can take a second to realize that you're not supposed to focus on the dark form in the center.

I've got to admit that I don't see that at all. [:D] I didn't set out to carve a map.

In my pumpkin, the top left part is a hand stretching out. The rest is all flowing robes, with the hood covering the head in the top center. The bottom right is what can be seen of the other arm. The rabbit thing is part of the bottom of the robe. Ideally, it would be attached to the rest of the cut out shapes, but that would've made the design too fragile.

Sorry about map analogy, but I spent a lot of time over in that region and it really does kind of look like a map of SE Asia

A little Vietnam PTS going on? [;)] [:D]

Now you see it. It's flying toward the viewer.

I used to use stock patterns, but nowadays, they're on every other pumpkin, and I'd rather do something that you don't see everywhere. Still, the little saw blades are a lot easier to use than knives. [:D]

It looks SPOOOOOOKY! That's really cool. I never had patience for that type of thing. I was more of a "Hack and Slash" when it came to pumpkins so my mother made me paint them instead of carving them. Then I learned (about 9 years ago) that they make AWESOME targets for the 1911.

FS, I marvel at your skill and patience. Even with all the directions, all I see is the intricate design, but then I'm artistically / creatively - challenged.

An evil tree bears evil fruit. You can destroy as much fruit as you want, but it will always grow back, and it will always be evil.

Tear the tree out of the ground by the roots and burn it. Burn it to ash and grind out the embers with your boot until there's nothing left. Not a single spark. Not a single seed.

The day I can carve that with a sword is the day I quit school and go to work as a fight double in a martial arts film. [:D]
