    35,

I want one too, we have them at work. If you need 17" or bigger, bring a fat wallet!

Wally world sells the 17 inch flat screen for under $400 but do not know if they are any good. The flat panels have come down a bunch in the last year.

Don't know if you guys can shop at the PX but I bought a nice ViewSonic 17" monitor for 500.00 (with 100.00 rebate) came to 400.00 bucks. not bad!
The prices on these are coming down all the time.

From experience, stay away from KDS and Princeton. We bought 3 KDS and 3 Princeton at work. All 3 KDS and 2 Princeton went out before the warrenty went out. And all 3 KDS went out again within a few months of being out of warrenty.
NEC and Viewsonic have been good. We have approx. 60 each of those and maybe 2 (1 each) have been bad.

The things to compare on these are the "Projector Image Brightness" (sometimes called just plain "brightness" or "backlight"). The higher the better. The best monitors will have 300 or 350 nits. Good ones will have 250 or 260.
And also compare the "contrast ratio". The best monitors will have 700:1. Good monitors will be 600:1 or 500:1. (again higher is better).
Sorry to make it so long, but I deal with these on a daily basis. And I spoke with several company reps. before we started buying and these specs. are the common ground thay all agree on.

Also, one other thing, when you find a monitor that you think you want, shop around and then check out www.cdw.com
They have excellent prices on computer related items.

Price is falling like a rock, Samsung,Phillips spending billions for new plants just for lcd, plasma, & opl screen units.
Xmas should be close to 1/2 price of today.

I haven't kept very current with my knowledge of the flat-screens, but last I checked the refresh rates on the non-crt monitors were somewhat lacking. So, if you do much in the way of gaming or movie-viewing on your pc, be sure to keep that in mind while shopping around for the best deal.

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 171v. I forgot how much it xost, but it wasn't too terribly pricey. Good quality image, too.

I've been outta the monitor market for a bit so I'm not sure of exact models, but anything that has a Pixelworks chip is excellent. Sony, Hitatchi, etc.
