I just heard on Fox News that 7 people are dead in a office shooting in Chicago. Why do these type of things always happen around an important gun issue? like the AWB??? It kinda makes me think

heres the story. www.cnn.com/2003/US/Midwest/08/27/chicago.shooting/index.html

This can't be right, this must have happened in a place without restrictive gun laws. Didn't the Chicago gun laws do so much to protect everybody? Makes you feel so safe knowing that the politicians are taking care of everybody by keeping them evil guns out of the hands of civilians[xx(]

I think you are mistaken. Guns are illegal in Chicago. It can't be true.

Seriously, two are dead so far. Another good reason to flee communist Illinois like we did.

On Fox they are reporting 4 were killed at the scene including the gunman, and 3 died at the hosptile. Ya, I thought Chicago was safe because of all the laws inplace to save the children.

KJ- I hear ya but I bet if we went and looked at all these dissgruntled employees I bet most are legal gun owners. They just went nuts.[V] Unfortunately I think incedents like this are powerfull ammo for the gun control freaks. " See, if civilians didn't have guns, this pi$$ed off guy could not have killed all those people."

Bsally- I was being completely sarcastic. It just goes to prove that the gun ownership shouldn't be penalized, but people that use them irresponsibly should get severely punished instead[:(!]

I went by work today to pick up my pay-stub, and as I walked in one of my co-workers (with whom i've discussed firearms a number of times) walked toward me and triumphantly began talking about the mass-shooting.

His argument is simple in the extreme; more guns = more killing. Remove all of the guns *regardless of how impractical, nevermind impossible, that solution is* and you remove 60% of the homicides committed in this country.

Having produced both statistics and reasonable arguments for the necessity of firearms as physical equalizers *ie: protection for women* as well as necessary to a free people *this one got me labeled as a gun-nut i fear*, I am left with little else to say to him. He believes me a fanatical fool, quoting interest-group founded statistics and outright fancy. Ironically enough, I feel largely the same about him.

The difference being that if we are both confronted one night by someone bent on doing use harm, as we cross the dark parking lot to our cars, I'll die thinking of the gun under my seat that I'm not allowed to carry at work, and he'll simply die. [V]

spectre7, I am assuming since you aren't allowed to arm yourself at work it is due to a conflict with company policy. The office I work at has the same "no firearms" rules, however, I approached the owner and reasoned with him. Suprisingly he gave me permission carry on the premises so long as it stays out of sight. I believe the idea that work would be that much safer appealed to him.

If you haven't already, it might be worth a try. [:)]

Heck, we're allowed to have firearms at work and we haven't had a crime or employee problem yet. I usually have my 45 under the desk or in the service truck everyday, makes for a safer workplace.

When I'm not working nights for a decking/tiling company here *where both owners are BIG fans of the 2nd amendement*, I'm working for Barnes and Noble. In a corporation of such size, direct communication is impossible and letters are ignored. Acutally, writing a letter, just forced me to park in an adjoining lot, as to not violate the rules concerning firearms on company property. But thanks for the suggestion.

There was a good photo of the gun and it looked like an older model, maybe a C&R, dark-colored like a Makarov. The police spokesman described it as a "Walther PP -- .380 caliber." It could have been a .32 also, of course, but let's assume for the moment they got something right.

As for the use of an old war relic to kill 6 people before being killed himself by the cops, I can only say he must have done it execution-style, point blank. Gee, good thing he didn't use a "more deadly" assault weapon of some kind. And of course, good thing Chicago has gun laws to prevent 100% of those killed from having the option to defend themselves, cut short the shooting spree, and maybe save a few lives. As it was, two guys ran away to a phone and called the cops, who of course got there as quick as they could and rushed the place since they knew the guy was in there actively killing people. Guess Columbine taught some lessons after all.

    T. Jefferson: "[When doing Constitutional interpretation], let us [go] back to the time when [it] was adopted. [Rather than] invent a meaning [let us] conform to the probable one in which it was passed."

But offeror, if we got rid of ALL the guns, the man would have been reduced to crossbows, edged weapons, blunt instruments, home-made explosives, and power-tools. The tragedy would have been COMPLETELY averted....It's so obvious to the truly enlightened.

NBC news just stated that the shooter was an Ex-con who worked for the place 6 months ago but was dismissed. That should just go to show those politicians in Chicago that when you take guns from law abiding citizans only criminals will have guns. Suprise, an ex -con with a gun. Gee wonder how that happened, I reckon the evil gun just hunted that ex-con down and told him to go shoot those people.[}:)]

Funny thing is that the Ten Commandments deal in AL is getting more attention than an ex-con with a gun. Go figure!

Well you see, the ex-con got a gun because of the gunshow loophole and the neighboring states with their lax laws. If we all had a strong gun-control stance; this couldn't possibly happen. [xx(]

    Chicago:
Lil' Richie was on the news a little while ago
    calling for MORE gun control.
The sound clip was brief and the good Mayor
did not elaborate on his statement.

    How far can Richie go?
Currently, even sworn law enforcement officers are
required to "check" their weapons before entering
    certain Chicago court rooms.
Not too long ago, a LEO took exception with a
divorce court judge's decision and then took out
    the judge.
Maybe the CPD should issue wooden sticks like their London
    counterparts.
What do the police have to worry about?
    Handguns are illegal in Chicago.

Why do cops even need fully automatic assault weapons? I thought they were only used for killing MASS numbers of people in a short amount of time, and not just one guy. I mean guns are illegal anyaway so they should have anything to worry about. Its a perfect Utopia, thats why no civilian needs a gun.

If he couldn't legally buy one he probably would have either got one off of the street or used a ball bat or large stabbing weapon....sword or what not. People will always find a way to kill other people....rocks, blades, pipes, other blunt and sharp objects....shove them out 3rd story windows...run them over with cars....it'll never stop. People will always kill other people.

Exactly. One kid brought a samuri sword to school and killed his teacher. I guess they should ban evil black assault samuri swords, who are only used by deadly ninjas and have no purpose in the hands of regular civilians.

    Update:

Chicago news sources have indicated the Walther PP allegedly used (according to BATF) was sold by a South Suburban (Blue Island) gunshop that went out of business in the mid-1980's.
Investigators were trying to locate the individual who purchased the
    weapon at that time.
It was noted they were not optimistic the Walther could be traced.

p.s. Illinois law requires all sales/transfer records by individuals be kept for 10 years.

I just don't understand the problem here.....

In the KC Star newspaper it reported that the killer had phoned in several threats long before he did the mass killings. That was a warning that should have been heeded. Once one of these nuts decides to enter a workplace/school etc. and do mass killings with the plan of killing himself or dying at the hands of the cops, the ONLY thing that will scare these kind of people is the idea that they will probably be shot dead as soon as they enter the doorway with their gun. And therby totaally fail with their evil plan. And this can only be accompllished by having armed citizens everywhere.

When guns were invented everything changed. For the first time in the history of the world a frail woman had a chance to sucessfully defend herself and home. My dream is that one of the anti-gun nuts will need a gun for defense and be unable to have one because of their own actions.
