I feel like a liberal saying this...

About this CA recall election...

Hopefully there are some Californians here that know what i am talking about:

I am 18, and i am going to vote in this recall election (it being the first vote that I cast). Now, i call myself a conservative, but I am questioning myself in this election. I have heard many stories about Arnold and his socialistic views. I have also heard about Cruz Bustamente (or whatever the hell his name is) and his goal of granting all Illegal Aliens amnesty. So, knowing that a vote for Gary Coleman or Peter Flynt (or all the other 158 candidates, for that matter) is a wasted vote, i must realize that i have got to vote for either Arnold or Cruz (the mainstream) to actually have my vote count. However, i do not like EITHER of their views. I am inclined to vote for Arnold, but I feel he is just another liberal in disguise (he's a movie start afterall) though he may help Bush in the Presidential election.

So this brings me to the dillemma. Who to vote for? I am not taking suggestions, i am merely asking you folks if i am doing the right thing by voting "No" on recalling Gray Davis. Is that considered "Conservative"? I feel that he cannot make this state any better, and i feel he will be blamed for every bad thing that has happened in CA if he stays. But who knows...i am only 18 and my logic has yet to be proven. I would like some feedback on this topic. Thanks

All three of 'em are a joke and not the best thing for CA, the question you need to ask yourself is which one is the least scary?

Matt, its Bustamante, 135 candidates, Ronald Reagan was also a movie star, and finally it's attorney. You were right on one thing though, quote:But who knows...i am only 18 and my logic has yet to be proven.

Just sit this thing out a few more weeks and see what happens. Already Arnold's approval ratings are plummeting, so mabye McClintock or Simon have a chance? We shall see.

When they come to get your GUNS, make sure to give them the AMMO first!!!

When I find myself considering a vote between two (or more) people I do not share common views with, I normally go for the lesser evil. My Dad on the other hand votes his conscience even if it appears he is throwing away a valuable vote. You got to make the choice and go with it dude. Good luck.

Wait it out before you make a decision. You got around 50 days to go.

The numbers will change rapidly over the next couple of weeks.

I dissagree with you on one thing. You sound like your vote only counts if you pick a winner. I say, your vote counts no matter what. If more people would vote their views instead of trying to go with the winner, things would be much better all over.

I think you are right about Arnold. He is a RINO.

I guess one can only vote for the one that will cause the least amount of damage and/or has views that are most similar to your own.

Learn as much as you can about the serious candidates and vote for the one you feel most closely represents your views. Simon and McClintock sound like possibilities for the conservative voter. You have the best part of two months to do the research.

BD - Don't feel bad, I've been voting for well over twenty years and I have many of the same concerns that you have expressed here. I'm not put off of Swarzenegger because he is an actor, though I am put off by what I have heard him say, and not say, so far. Bustamante is another liberal and does not interest me at all. Though, his lack of testicular fortitude would temper his tendencies if we had a conservative legislature. I'm looking for some signs of life from the serious conservative candidates like McClintock and Simon, and I sure wish that Issa would have stayed in. I have many reservations about Simon, though, since watching his non-campaign against Davis. I don't know that I have forgiven him that, yet.

Most of the rest of the "candidates" are idiots who are just thumbing their noses at the process. They have to know that they don't have a serious chance at the office. They seem to put the Goober in Gubernatorial.

I have heard that Arnold Schwarzenegger is very anti-gun if that helps, and from what he has said about Proposition XIII, he seems to have very socialist views, but he has yet to come out in public with any statements about his political views. I think that one of Arnold's tactics is to let people think whatever they want to think about his political agenda.

I vote Libertarian when possible, even though that's a "wasted vote" in SC, as Republicans always carry this state. Although there might be some truth to the value of voting against someone instead of voting for someone, I don't think that's what voting is about -- you're voting, not betting.

However, there is one logical argument for voting on the best candidate (regardless of his chances for winning the popular vote) that goes beyond mere principles: if you vote for a candidate that you don't really like just because the candidate you like best doesn't have a chance of winning the election, the candidate for whom you voted thinks that you agree with his views, and the best candidate may decide to give up on running for office. It has been argued that one function of third parties in the U.S. is that while they rarely win an election, they detract votes from major candidates (usually for very specific issues). In close elections, this can hurt one of the major candidates, but more importantly, when major candidates see that they're losing votes to a third-party candidate about a particular issue (e.g., gun control), the major candidate might "change" or at least rethink his position to draw voters back to him.

You can be thankful for the beuraucracy (sp) because that is what inefitably keeps the government going. The ones who do their jobs everyday. The administrators (governor) rely on the experience of those that hold the pyramid up.

When you vote for a 3rd party you aren't wasteing your vote. Your sending a message when the party is small and if enough people are sending messages that 3rd party won't be 3rd for all that long.

Giving up and not voting for the candidate who will represent your interests the way you want them to be represented is still giving up. Vote for what you believe in, not for who you think will win.

Voting for Arnie or Cruz is wasting your vote. If you want to vote for a true republican who has a plan and is pro 2nd amend. vote for Tom McClintock. I will vote for whatever sacraficial lamb the libertarian party puts up there just like I always do, if you'd join me then you wouldn't be wasting your vote, you'd be building support for the Libertarian party and voting for what you truly believe in, not someone who is the "lessor" of 2 evils.

    YOU SHOULDN'T VOTE FOR EVIL.

Your vote counts no matter who you voted for. If you want to vote for Mickey Mouse then vote for him. It's basically saying "no" to the rest of the candidates. I hate the "logic" and I use that word loosely that people think they have to vote for one of the top runners for their votes to count. It's a terrible mindset I am personally trying to break everybody of that I know. If people would vote for who they WANTED then mabye the underdog would actually win an election and people could get what they truly WANT instead of more *, thieving, lying, career, good ole boy politicians.

California deserves Gray Davis. I say keep him in office. Let him rule the roost until rock bottom is hit and conservative politics are the only way to rescue the state from absolute squalor. Mediocre luke-warm politicians like Schwartzenegger are only going to delay what must happen before the hard lessons are learned.

All of you make very good points. I still think that i might vote no on the recall only because Davis will bring shame to the democratic party. However, if he DOESNT get recalled, he will say that he "defeated the right-wing- forces" and i dont know if i could hear that without going over to sacremento (40 minute drive) and strangling him.

I will consider McClintock as he is a good conservative and 2nd Amend. supporter. Thanks guys!

Well BurningDaily- I can't say what I feel because I am not sure myself. But I will say Congrats and good luck. I couldn't wait until I turned 18 because all I talked about was voting. 2 weeks after I turned 18 I got my first chance to vote for Milw. County Exec. But you need to seriously think about what you are doing, this is important stuff. But I'm a geek like that, I'm 19 and still look forward to every voting oppurtunity I have. GOOD LUCK with your decision.

    Arielle,

That's the attitude I wish all Americans had. But the sad fact is that voter apathy has given special interests an inordinate amount of influence and control. Just look at ANY politician up to and including the President and you all but see corporate logos stapled to their foreheads.
