Ruling was it was legal. So if it was a semi automatic how in the heck can the mayor say semi automatics are illegal?

Don't know that they meant he could have that handgun, but he could have a handgun. Prolly one of them CVA Kentucky pistol kits.

Don't think it mattered what type of gun; rather that he could possess one at home after jumping through all the hoops of registration, licensing, proof of ability, etc.

SF brings up a good point.

What license did Heller apply for?
    What was on the application?

    Suppose it was a Glock.

How can the mayor say only revolvers will be approved, when the SCOTUS basically approved Heller's application?

Can't get any simpler than that. 157 pages of lawyerly gobbledygook but in order to understand, you have to read the whole thing.

BTW, it gave me a headache.

Heller is a D.C. commissioned Special Police Officer. SPOs in D.C. are armed security guards that have arrest powers ONLY on the property where they work, such as museums, etc. Heller carries a handgun at work and applied for a license to have it at home also. That was denied and that was the start of the lawsuit. You can make about $25.00 an hour working as a part time SPO in D.C. Not a bad part time job.

DC law is that only police officers and federal agents (not security guards) can carry semi-autos. Everyone else has to carry a revolver.

According to the DC Chief of Police, this is the only acceptable revolver allowed within the city limits:
