I need to give him a call the next time I have to drop the Trany and X-fer case in my 1975 Power wagon, they weigh 700# together and its a bear to move them around.

Yea he beat my best by 380# and that was a long time ago.

    yup
Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain

My best was 375# with long arms and no juice. I wish now I would have never tried to max, but tell that to a youngster.

I think my HS max for bench was about 285 (nothing impressive) and my arms were moving the weight about 4 times as far (plus I lifted it off the rest myself).

A stout bench press doesn't equate to many skills. I'd put a165# kick boxer against him.

    Doesnt rule it out ether

I was 19 benched 425, ran 5 miles everyday, black belt in tkd, could do the splits standing up against the wall, surprised allot of people who thought as you do

Great. How many pull ups can he do? How quick is he on the field and in the 40? What's his high jump? What's his clean?

THOSE are the physical tests that have actual carry over to the athletic arena.

Pure strength is better than nothing, but not the end all be all of the endeavor.

He has a bench shirt on, it does give some "spring" to the lift. Either way it is 700 pounds. Steroids? Probably.

Makes my 370 pound bench look like nothing!

At 17 he will have problems with joints when he reaches 30. Still that is a lot of weight for a teenager. I hope it is natural but I am betting juice.

We had a guy on our football team benched in the neighborhood of 600#, squatted even more, and was fast. It took time, determination, lots of effort.............................and some type of horse steroid injections.

If you asked him, he wasn't on roids either.[;)]

Max bench was 410# (no roids and no bench shirt) when I 24 years old. I'm 40 now and have all sorts of tendon and joint issues from years of power lifting. A torn distal bicep tendon two years ago ended my heavy lifting for good.

I feel sorry for him. When I was 17, I weighed about 125# and could lift and carry 300#. I've been in constant pain from a damaged spine for the last 40 years. Elbows, shoulders, knees, hands, and hips=all giving me fits for decades.
My only reconciliation is that I caused my injuries doing constructive work rather than those who hurt themselves playing games.

I went to a small school, I think there was 19 in the graduation class. We had no football team, no weights, nothing. I could lift a bale of hay pretty good, drive fence post, and cut tobacco. If I would have done a bench press it wouldn't have been very good as I have long arms 38" shirt sleeve length. I was in high demand hanging tobacco in barns because of my length and long arms.

I know what you mean. I baled hay just about most of the summer for every year I was in HS. Living om a farm doing chores my overall body strength was much greater than the ones that worked on their legs and arms. I played football on a CO-OP with another HS. Coaches were all upset because I never lifted weights like the city kids did(told me I wasn't dedicated). I was strong enough to play w/o lifting weights. I even played in college w/o lifting much.

Grew up farming in the days of no bulk fertilizer deliveries .It came in hundred pound sacks that had to be unloaded by hand carried to the planter and dumped in the hopper No telling how much tobacco
I hung up in the old stick type barns Never had a need to do any weight lifting as exercise did plenty of it as work .
