LEUPOLD LTO-TRACKER HANDHELD THERMAL DEVICE

My wife saw this thing and just had to have one, so she splurged and got it.

It really does not work very well. We tried to spot a squirrel's nest in a tree at night. Most of the tree lit up. We tried it in the day time with the sun on a tree, and the whole tree lit up.

These are not military grade thermal imaging devises, so don't expect that kind of result if you buy one.

I have a FLIROne for my phone.

Really cool. Use it for electrical hot spots and to check mechanical wear items at work.

why would a squirrel nest have a significant thermal profile? leaves are insulation. how does it work on deer size animals?

I played with one in the local ACE hardware the other day and it was pretty cool. People showed up vey plainly so I imagine something deer sized or better would also stand out real good. Looking at getting one for my wife to use at work.

    My question also?

Did you know their was a squirrel on the nest? (laying eggs)

Crawl up there and see how many squirrel eggs are in the nest?

For $600 how far does it say it should detect a deer sized animal? (answer= 600 yards)

I seen this info at the Leupold site at this link after posting.
    list retail price
    $900

Wonder how many beer drinking Bubba deer hunters will take a shot with this device and assume it's a deer they are shooting towards? OMG[:0]

Adds new meaning to the term SPOT AND NOT STALK, JUST SHOOT and go see what ya got

A friend brought one of these over a couple of weeks ago. Having played with all kinds of NV scopes, this one really impressed me. Even has a recoil activated video camera built in. Check the ad in the link, a lot of features packed into a very compact scope, and they all work as advertised.
