161.00 out the door. It is not perfect but I would give it a solid 85%. I am happy. Wish it had a 22 mag cylinder

Keep watching the auction side. I got a 22 mag cylinder for my Ruger about 8 years ago on there. I was worried about timing but it lined up perfectly.
It's too late for me, save yourself.

Thinking about it. I think my dad has a 22 mag cylinder and no fun to go with it. How did you check out the two timing?

simple test for timing is a square ended dowel sized to just slide down the barrel without wiggle and if it slips right in each chamber u are good to go

Well I knew the original was fine. I used a dowel rod (go ahead and make fun of jeff) and then checked for any shaving after the first shot. My fear was that the cylinders were matched to the action but I guess not. Either that or I was lucky.

I've been bidding on a 3 screw with both cylinders but it just went past my budget.

I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly

Ebay has some on - most are too high $ IMO. But a couple of them just starting at lower dollars.

I have one I got in the early 70?s with the magnum cylinder.
There were some small nicks in the ejector housing and the back strap of the frame.
I filed out the nicks and polished the parts as they are aluminum. I put it back together without re-finishing them and liked the look so that is how I left it.
It still only has three screws and will stay that way too!

Send it back to Ruger and have them supply one and fit it to the gun. I did that with a Blackhawk years ago for a 45LC cylinder. It came with the 45ACP only. They did the transfer bar conversion and sent it, the original parts and the new cylinder back in a new box.

My experience has been, the length of the cylinder, not the timing, has been the problem with an unfitted Ruger SA cylinder. It's actually not the cylinder itself but that fixed bushing that sticks out the front of the cylinder: it's either too long and the cylinder won't go into the frame, or it's too short and there's end-play. And, of course, the 3-screw & new model cylinders are different, too.

Having said that; I believe I have an extra mag cylinder (not perfect, either!) around here that was given to me. I don't remember if it's new or old model but, if you want it and will pay the shipping, (and if I can find it!), I'll send it.

EDIT: I'm sorry, Idaho, I did find that cylinder but it turns out to be a .22 LR, not magnum. I never had reason to check that before. But I did learn that there is no difference (at least that I can find) between the old 3-screw and the new model cylinders. I have both and cylinders will interchange.
