Flying high on new year?s day!

edited January 2018 in General Discussion
I will be exercizing my right as a private pilot on new year?s day, weather permitting!
A ritual I have tried to adhere to whenever possible.
Supposed to be a good day. The old bird is a year younger than me but in
a lot better shape and will far outlive me!

Yes that was my driveway. I developed 60 acres that adjoined an airport and created 12 lots where we could taxi our airplanes to our homes and hangars.
I have since bought 20 acres in northern Washington where I can have my own airport.

Beautiful! An airplane in the driveway, what could be better?
I hope it has a good heater.

    That's a Cessna 170? That's the plane I learned to skydive from.

It is a 1948 Cessna 170. First year of the 170 line. Fabric covered wings, small hinged * and a 145 h.p. Continental O-300C engine.
Your jump plane was probably a 170B model. Metal wings and larger fowler *.
I once heard that skydivers were like a cup of Folger?s coffee... good to the last drop!

Classic stick and rudder bird. VERY nice.
    I may be a bit crazy - but I didn't drive myself.

I know, but "yoke and rudder" doesn't have the same ring, does it? It's an airplane you FLY, not sit in and press buttons.

At least you had no chance of contracting that fatal "gethomeitis" disease.

For sure! And my takeoffs are still equal to my landings!

I too was all set to fly today, 10 degrees be-dammed, I have a good pre-heater. Alas, our wonderful Gallia County Commissioners took the millions to repave the runway but close the airport when it snows. It could be 10 days or more before we can use our aircraft again.

Now you're talkin'! I sent an email this morning asking the airport manager when they planned on opening the airport. They have made zero effort to do anything to reopen it. That "little" issue along with illegal construction in the space reserved for future hangers might not set so well with the FAA.

Takeoffs are optional, landings are mandatory. As far as I know,
