Deer butchering tip,,

When hanging the deer we place a plastic kiddy wading pool under the deer. This catches all the blood that may drip, and makes skinning a lot easier. Dump the pool into the trash, rinse out with garden hose and its ready for the next deer.

Also,we do our butchering at the kitchen table. We bought one of those heavy vinyl/plastic leak pans you put under a washing machine. Put that on the kitchen table and cut all the meat in the vinyl pan. No more cuts in the table,no more blood on the table or drips on the floor. When done, wipe out with paper towels. Can be sprayed out with garden hose if need be.

Good ideas except for the fact that my family is far too messy for such small containments.
I used to do all my meat cutting on the built in picnic table on the deck with a 4'x4'x1/2" sheet of industrial grade plastic on top. The cats kept all the scraps cleaned up.

I like the pan idea Joe. I will have to pick one up at the supply house. We also do NOT clean the meat with water, until we go to cook it. By cleaning the meat with water and then freezing, you trap in bacteria and other nasty stuff that will make you sick. We didn't know this until we all got sick one year. My family doctor that is also a hunter, told us this secret. His brother is a butcher and told him. Oakie

Wash it out and cool.. not freeze. In the cooler for days to a week. State Health Dept monitors commercial deer processors.

I use an old galvanized washtub under the hanging deer to catch the blood, hide, head and tidbits. I leave the washtub in the woods all year long. These have nice handles and don't get in the way.

9 times out of 10, it is too cold around here to depend on an outside water hose for rinsing out a deer carcass.

I am very careful about doing a clean job of gutting and dressing out my kill. I get the deer hung and skinned before it cools too much and then I use compressed air gun to blow off most of the loose hairs and pooling blood within the open cavity.

Joe, I like your kiddy pool catch basin idea and will definitely use that this season (if hunt is successful)! In the past, I have just put down a big piece of thick cardboard.

I use half of a plastic 55 gallon drum under my hanging deer. I cut handles into the sides.

Thirty years ago we built our first cooler / processing room had space to hang and skin them out and a cooler to age it in . Once we ceased our commercial poultry operation we moved it to one of the old house rebuilt it to a larger size - the cooler is a walk-in and has had as many as 20 deer in it at one time the cooling unit came from an old Pepsi machine and has needed one $25 repair in 30 years . There is an area to back your truck up to and winch the deer up . Running water for cleanup and commercial stainless table in a room that can be heated to cut and process it in . All three of us brothers are scrounges and everything was built with salvage material . All total we may have $200 in it W dig a large slit trench to dump the guts in with my cousins backhoe
cry Havoc and let slip  the dogs of war.....

    These are great tips!

Some will die in hot pursuit
    And fiery auto crashes
Some will die in hot pursuit
    While sifting through my ashes
Some will fall in love with life
And drink it from a fountain
That is pouring like an avalanche
    Coming down the mountain
