BUTTERBALL

Well, just got the 16 pounder stuffed and into the 325 degree oven around 6:30 this morning. I have been the chief cook & bottle washer for Thanksgiving since my mom died when I was 15.

The wife has always enjoyed taking the day off for this holiday occasion, and it has been a pleasure for me!

I took the bird out of the freezer early Monday morning and placed it in the refrigerator. Noticed last night it was still hard as a rock. Sooo, had to give it a cold water thaw bath up until it made it to the oven.

Seems every year that a frozen turkey never wants to cooperate with the written rules of cooking safety!

Been out in the hunting woods for the last week looking to shoot Bambi and have had two solid mornings with wild turkeys everywhere!
Counted 23 birds yesterday with 3 big Tom's leading the pack.

I have to admit that it was very tempting to go with fresh bird this year but my moral compass pointed to that frozen solid BUTTERBALL![}:)][^]

Wishing everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving weekend!

I would LOVE for everyone to get out of the kitchen and let me work!!

I'm relegated to the garage, den, or basement.
They are happy to let me clean up though. [V]

unwrap , take giblets out, place in 5 gallon food grade bucket of ice water for 6 bucks at lowes

butterball has an excellent turkey brine recipe on their web site, and you can use the bucket for that too

unwrapping it, and take out the packet is the key even if you dont use the bucket
