My cousin made it seem like I would be bringing a bb gun if I brought a 30-06 he suggested a 416 I don't know if my shoulder can handle that any suggestions would be welcomed
apparently he can't shoot, sounds like these guys that say, ah ya need a 7 mag or even better a 300 mag for deer! ignorance is bliss they say

Get a gun bigger than his. Install a muzzle brake for reduced recoil. I shot a .300 Mag the other day that kicked like a .223. Wicked. Tell him you bought a .50 BMG.
For Black bear the 30-06 is minimum I would use.
For Brown bear I would use a bigger caliber.
I have shot black bear and they are a lot tougher than a deer.
The last Bear I shot was with a 30-06 and I handloaded 220 grain bullets.
If you can't feel the music; it's only pink noise!
A 30.06 is to small for a bear, but a arrow is not?
Trying to remember the video, but I watch a guy take a kodiack <sp>
bear with a compound at 35 yards, dropped in no more than 100 yrds.

Shot placement is not everything on a bear. I have witnessed through binoculars a bear hit in the lung/ heart area with a hunters 270 3 times and the bear was not found. I was watching the bear and the rain on its coat gave an excellent visual as to the impacts.
The shots were perfect but there was not enough power to anchor the bear.

I ahve seen the videos also but what the video wont show you is the large caliber rifle, if not two, pointed and ready to drop that bear if something goes wrong.
Videos give a false perception to real life hunting.
Fine and good that an arrowed bear went down... on this video, but for every video that shows success there are 100 videos that never get shown due to failier. I know guys who film big game hunts.
Maybe not this rifle but something chambered in .338 lapua[}:)]

One buddy of mine hunted all his AK bear with a 300 H&H, he only broke out the 375 H&H when he was backing up a paid hunter. His preferance for the clients is that they used the gun they felt most comfortable with, even if it was a 30-40 Krag.
my baby, needs more range time[;)]

Or if you would prefer something a bit more taditional:

Of course you could go all out:

But in reality your 45-70 has more than enough power with good ammo to get the job done on bear of any size.

That's BS... Like anything else you'd hunt. It's all about SHOT-PLACEMENT." OH, if you hit it's shoulder-blade, it will run over and kill you." DON'T HIT IT'S SHOULDER-BLADE!!! People kill GIANT bears, with ARROWS!! For cryin out loud!! Indians killed GIANT BEARS with pointed sticks !!!If you're that worried about it, take a 10 Gauge Slug gun. Or better yet... DON'T GO!

Good luck!!
Go with a classic...375 H&H or .458 Win Mag.
I agree 100%...Forget about taking an 30-06 up there to go bear hunting. I say this from personal experience. I was an Alaska Fish and Game protectiion officer in Juneau and knew quite a few bear hunt guides and most either carried a .375 WM or a .458 WM.
I don't know if there's a magic cure for recoil (they both kick like a mule). There could be a chance you won't even feel the recoil when letting loose on a Brown bear. The adrenalin will be flowing like a river.[:)]
When it goes down you will be glad you used enough gun.
Thry the Gibbs 505 Magnum. Hint it's on the end![:D]

What are the other cartridges?
Wait I got a guess from left to right
