Palestinian PM: Suicide attacks are wrong, Withdrawal should include WB
IMEMC & Agencies, March 31, 2004

The Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmad Qurei described the suicide bombings against Israeli civilians as contradictory to the Palestinian aims for peace.

Qurei said that in his speech to the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) Wednesday in West Bank city of Ramallah. He added, "Not only these attacks lowered the quality of the resistance to the Israeli occupation but also, it is being used by Israel to continue its offensive against the Palestinian People.

Qurei said, the attacks on civilians distort the image of the rightful resistance for the Palestinians and create false images about the Palestinians in the International Community.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister commented on the Gaza withdrawal plan suggested by the Israeli Prime Minster Ariel Sharon saying "In principle, we welcome any Israeli withdrawal from any single inch in Palestine if it is the first step towards a full withdrawal from all the occupied territories" "The Gaza pullout proposal could be a chance [to revive peace moves] and we all should work together to seize this chance in a wise and courageous manner," Qurei told the PLC members.

The Likud convention has approved, Tuesday night, holding a referendum on the disengagement plan amongst a huge wave of criticism from both the Israel right and left.

Qureia also said the Gaza disengagement plan could create further obstacles to peace without a full West Bank withdrawal, and called for Israeli-Palestinian cooperation to avoid falling "into a trap".

PM Qurei warned against falling into a trap of annexing more settlements in the West Bank as an exchange of withdrawing from Gaza and said that this disengagement plan should not replace the US-backed Road Map.

In light of an American objection to moving settlers from Gaza to the West Bank and an expected American approval of the current route of the wall, it is likely that Sharon will have a better chance of winning the vote of the referendum among the 200,000 Likud members to implement his plan, despite of his corruption scandal that he is trying to avoid mentioning in any public forum.

If true and he is saying the same thing to his people, Then I commend him and wish him well for peace.
