Iowa Flooding

How many here were affected by the Midwest Flooding. I am on fairly high ground but near the Des Moines River in Ottumwa, Iowa. I only got some back up in the basement and had to take a cross country route to the house because the road was under water.

Hope no one had any serious damage. I look forward to hearing what is happening in other areas.

My Dad lives along the Miss. He said that it was at 1993 levels so if you think back to 93 thats about how bad it is along there, but iowa got hit with a 500 year storm.

I heard some stupid people around St Louis were celebrating the levee breaks up stream because it is supposed to lower the peak flood level in their area. Does that mean it would be ok for me to celebrate them getting lightning struck?

Say hey to Radar for me. Not bad here in Shelby county. Worry about the crops making it. Every time the fields start drying out, it rains again.

We were in Wisconsin Dells visiting my in-laws when all hell broke loose... literally.

    http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=760060

We watched as the chunks of houses floated by in the Wisconsin River. It was, by far, the most interesting and sad thing I've ever seen.

We were on the road when the storms first started to hit... on I-90 right on the MN/WI border. We had a tornado chasing us at 37mph on the freeway about five miles behind us. We were listening to the radio as the weather service was giving updates.

It was raining so hard that we couldn't see the hood of our car as we were going down the road. But, how could I stop? If I stopped on the highway, I risked either the tornado catching us or someone *-packing us. So, I kept the speed at 40mph to keep the tornado behind us.

I have never seen it rain that hard in my entire life, and I grew up in hurricane country (Miami, FL).

The next morning is when all hell started breaking loose with the river and Lake Delton.

My in-laws are on very high ground in Baraboo. It would have required the river to rise almost 200 feet to affect their property. But, we spent a lot of time helping others evacuate their homes and grab some important personal belongings.
