Book says about 5500, I would think that the letter would add a couple of hundred. Some of the Winchesters have gone up a lot- prices asked for some of the commemoratives here on GB have doubled since the New Haven plant closed a few months ago. I guess only time will tell if this is a temporary inflation or if the the higher prices stay. All I know for sure is that I would love to have this one! What it is really worth to you is how much you're willing to pay for it. Unfortunately, looking at my bank book, it has already passed that point for me.

Its worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it...and for some that is nothing, for others its a lot...

    Scott...

That .33 WCF Take Down Rifle is in superb original condition. Based on what I can see of it in the photos, it is easily a $5500 gun. If it was being sold in a live auction, I have no doubt that it would break the $6K mark.

Break out your checkbook or credit card and add $1000 to your bid... it is worth every penny of it[^]. That is one of the finest condition .33 WCF Take Down Model 1886 Rifles I have ever seen, and it isn't going to go down in value!!

Out of curiousity, what did the book say[?] (I never look at any of the price guide books because they are grossly inaccurate[V])

27th ed. blue book puts 95% at $4500 with 98-100% values not available. If this gun is true...It appears 98%.

This is the kind of thing I would be investing in if I had 10,000 dollars to invest.
Forget making the stock traders wealthier.

Why not just send it to ZipperZap? I am sure he could weld a new forend on so that you can go "tactical" with your 33 WCF!!

Oh my, that's a real beauty! With only two hours to go, I would be having a near nervous attack. But seriously, I would think hard about camoflaging that pretty wood. But you might consider drilling and tapping a side mount and installing a period scope. Bert is always telling us to keep them as original as we can. That's why I used this old 8X Lyman 5A on my Winder musket.[}:)][:D]

    Good luck on the auction.

weirdo caliber and post 1899, too bad or it could be a $10,000.00 gun. I'd feel ok if I could get it for five grand.

I know you didn't... wundudnee (Scott) did it. He has been yanking my chain with that photo for several months now (after I yanked his chain for a year + for not owning a Winchester Model 1885 .22 caliber rifle).
