Semper Fi. Served from age 20-24 and I've always said one hitch in the Corps ought to be enough for any sane person (no offense to career Marines intended). I am currently very active in The American Legion, La Societe 40 & 8, and The Montford Point Marine Assocication.

    Remember Ruby Ridge.
I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly

I always wondered why people referred to the National Guard as the "guardS". Can someone enlighten me?

    USAF six yrs...munitions and EOD.

I would estimate probably 60% of the denizens here are ex-military or serving currently. God Bless em all.

idsman75: I served six years in the "Guard".

I cant tell why we called it that, everyone there did, so it just stuck.

Got out in 79, cause it was getting stupid.

Guess I wanted something else and my job as supervisor at a boat plant didnt help in this situation either.

I was the units armorer when I got out.

So you all know now why my interest is in the finer kind of fire arms.

bolthandle--No offense intended. It has just become a pet peeve of mine that I figured stems from the fact that this area of the country just doesn't produce much in the line of military experience. My colleagues and I have always chalked up the term "Guards" (which we assumed was a local term) to the fact that most folks around here don't know much about the Active Duty, Reserve or National Guard components.

Night Stalker--I tell people the same thing. I have no idea what I want to do when I grow up. I'll be 42 (and retired) when that happens. There is a gentleman that I know in the local area who flies down to Haiti once a year and organizes humanitarian work for the Hatians from the USA when he's not in Haiti. I figure he'll be ready to retire from that work when I'm ready to retire from the Army. I've been thinking about resuming the work that he does when that happens. Either that or I'll just deliver the mail [:D]
