That is, indeed, a huge rat. After my rat-killer dog died a few years ago I briefly had rats move into one machine shed. The biggest I trapped was 17 inches, but that was nose to tip of tail. I can't even imagine one as big as in the story.[xx(]

Looks very similar to a few politicians I've seen.
No offense to Rats meant, of course.

when i lived in Florida i saw some pretty big swamp rats, do not recall their size as i was 6, 7, 8 y.o., Dad shot them with his Winchester single shot .410.

Our public cold storage was next to the wharf. The old building was insulated with huge blocks of cork. The rats would chew their way through the cork walls and live inside the freezer, eating the products stored there...They were huge, and would whip a cat for breakfast! The only way the freezer was ridded from the rats,it was torn down in the mid '70's...these rats evolved with long hair on their bodies,to stand the below zero temps...

I want to know where the rest of the rat Family is. They never go it alone.

You're right. After my dog died, it took about two months before I started noticing signs of rats. I started trapping them, worrying that poison could harm my barn cats if they caught a poisoned rate. But after trapping more than 30 rats, I had a long talk with the cats and told them they weren't doing their job, so beware of poisoned rats. It took about a week after I put out poison before rat signs disappeared. I was amazed at how quickly dozens of rats had moved in.[xx(]

Mrs Fun and I were walking back to my dorm on the Tech campus after a concert down at the Omni and she said "wow look at the size of that cat..." That is a rat, dear. Not a cat...

At our fraternity house, on Techwood drive we would put pie plates of dog food out in the alley and shoot the rats with a Beeman.

Years ago I seen field rats that would be about 10 inches nose to base of tail
and another 8 to 10 inches of tail.

    But nothing that big... [:0]

No, mine was nose to tip of tail. The big one in the post didn't include tail length so was probably well over 20 inches total length.
