I Reckon I Won't Do That Again...

I reckon I won't do that again. I have flown from DFW to Atlanta and back. I have flown from DFW to Phoenix and back. In each case, I had a sidearm in my checked luggage. Departing, in each case was pretty simple and straightforward. Arriving, in each case, was the same.

In DFW, and Atlanta, and Phoenix, I simply claimed my bag, carried it to a chair, set it down and unlocked it. Then, I retrieved my pistol from the bag, loaded it, and put it into my holster on my belt. The baggage claim area is an unsecured area, so there was no problem, and no one in the area even raised an eyebrow.

I probably won't do that again. In truth, I hope I never have to go into another airport for any reason again. I can drive, and I can follow a map and a GPS.

4 years ago I retired from a job that had me flying an average of 150 times a year. I miss it about like I would miss a bad case of athlete's foot.

The outer layer of hell consists of being seated between a baby with an ear infection and a guy in a sweaty shirt, on a plane that has been on a ramp hold for 3 hours.

I am aware of the shooting at the Ft. Lauderdale airport, but if you think traveling with a sidearm and TSA is a headache, try being the traveler that works with commercial explosives.

Just to think, I used to go on extraditions and flying the crook back.

A letter from the Sheriff in hand, I walked around the limited check points. Airlines had only a couple of seats we could be in.

Some of the Pilots were a bit of a jerk. I uncharacteristically kept my mouth shut to avoid being kicked off the flight.

    My how times have changed.

Except for two to three trips a year to San Diego to visit our grandson, daughter, and son-in-law; I don't plan to fly anywhere, especially after today!!!!!! Obviously, I don't carry when we fly to CA.

If I can't drive there no reason to go there. Last time I flew the Marines made me do it.

I have a son in McKinney Tx, and a daughter in Portland Or. Both too far to drive so as long as they don't prohibit carrying guns in checked bags I will continue to take my gun.

When I arrive at my destination I don't unpack my gun and load it in the baggage claim, I wait until I get to the car. That way no one is going to panic.

I was on a Delta flight once and an older lady who's husband and son both flew for Delta told me. "Even if you go to hell, you have to go through Atlanta."

It is hard to drive to Hawaii.
    Next potential destination.
Will not be taking any firearms.

Getting herded into the flying cattlecar is the worst Id rather spend days driving than fly anywhere...and that's from someone who was in the industry for 30 yrs...

We have a contracting firm that handles our explosion protection. Their canisters are set off with small charges of their own.

He finished an emergency job at our plant and left for the airport in a hurry. He left two charges is his jacket pocket and the dog hit on him immediately. Can't imagine the headache.

I've been highly susceptible to motion sickness my entire life. I retired in 2015 from a job that required me to fly infrequently, but I dreaded the trips nonetheless. I would load up on a quintuple dose of meclizine and sometimes handle the takeoffs OK, but the landings got to me no matter how doped up I was. The first thing I would do after disembarking was find a place to sit in a semi-reclined position and try to sleep for half an hour or so to shake off the horrible dizziness. I got to visit lots of neat places all across the country, but I never got to enjoy them, because I would spend the first day recovering, the second day presenting my research material, and the third day getting sick again on the flight home. The only place I will ever fly again is the British Isles. For some reason I want to visit the Scottish Highlands. Maybe some day....[;)]
