What does the "ACP" stand for in .45 ACP?

Just wondering. The only thing I can think of that isn't a foreign language would be "Automatic Colt Pistol" since, if I'm not mistaken, Colt was the first to manufacture the 1911.
Of course, that's just a guess. I have no idea. Someone please either confirm my guess as correct or totally ignorantly wrong... and then provide the right answer.
This has been bugging me for a few hours now...

That is why none of the 9MM cartriges (except 9MM Kurz {.380 ACP/Browning}) are designated "ACP".
