This is why everybody should have some type of weapon light on their home defense gun. They're extremely bright, easy to use and light as a feather. Plenty of options. By using one, you WILL clearly identify an intruder in the dark and blind them at the same time. A break in will most likely happen in the dark so why does anybody want to be shooting at a silhouette?
I don't know what options there are for revolvers but most newer pistols and long guns accept them.
As for the guy that broke in... some people will argue that he was unarmed and could have been reasoned with. My only response to this would be, If he would have been home in bed, like any normal person, he'd still be alive. There are no excuses for that type of behavior. He put himself in the situation.

The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly, is to fill the world with fools.
My 2 cents worth is this-I hear somebody banging on my door (anytime after midnight) and then something comes crashing through a window followed by an intruder with my wife and 8 year old daughter asleep you can dang sure bet I'm not going to offer to give him a breathalizer or try to anaylize his state of mind. He just put me and my family at risk. I don't give a hoot if he was just drunk, depressed, stoned, confused, fill in the blank. He's getting all I've got from my Cond. 1 Sig P220 that's in my nightstand. I can't take that chance not too. You come into my house uninvited, I have to assume the worst. I'll deal with the Prosecutor after my family is safe.
I vote not to use a light (target). When I turn in for the night the only ones present are me, the wife and the dog. When the commotion starts, I'm shooting everybody except me, the wife and the dog.
Glad you survived it bradleyburns. Welcome aboard.
Well darn, I was all excited when I some the names that replied on this thread that we haven't heard from in awhile, then I looked at the original posting date.

Whoa! I'll be damned! Yeah, welcome to GB. I didn't catch that the first time. (Must be getting tired.)
That's one hell of a first post. Did the guy say anything?
