Worked briefly in a sales position for the month of December, we had a mutual break up at the begining of January. Well now finally have 2 companies interested in me! One wants me in for a 2nd interview tomorrow am, the other wants me in Friday.

So what do you guys think? Both are about the same distance away, one manufactures huge Material Handling Systems for coal burning electric power companies the other manufactures large Printing Presses.

Am thinking it might come down to salary on this one.

If you don't have a preference, salary and benefits would have to do it. Sometimes insurance and bennies are more important than how much you take home each week, so check that out thoroughly.

Since you are a youngster, I will also mention looking into retirement benefits/options. Will they match or partial match 401 contributions? take a look at health benefits too, that can add up. Be nice if both were so good you could close your eyes and throw a dart to choose! Good Luck!

Thanks guys, yeah still staying in the area. One of the positions might allow me to live just over the border in Kenosha. Kinda tempting since those IL democraps are once again trying to ban all shotguns & Semi Auto Rifles.

FrancF makes a good point. Printing press sales are linked to the economy. In tough times printers don't buy new presses. And though in lean times power companies may pay closer attention to their expenses, at least they have constant revenue streams, whereas printers don't.

I have personally watched salesmen of printing presses as well as salesmen of printing services get real skinny in a down economy.

Despite the fact that the hard core enviros are down on coal, they are more likely to be very unhappy if the electricity goes off. My 2 cents says if you want long term with pretty good retirement and benefits, and probably a job that will transfer just about any where in the US or overseas, coal.

As an electrician I see alot elecric power plants built in the future. Just check out Kalifornia and their blackout problems, huge need for power plants. Here in MO they have talked of several going up in the next several years. Just hope they hurry up, I could use the job wiring up one of these new plants.

    Good Luck.

    Matwor,
There is an excess of power.........do some research on the "power shortages" that CA experienced. It was just like the "gas shortages" in the 1970s. Made a few people rich, bankrupted many others.

My opinion - long term, there will be far greater need for printing presses than COAL-FIRED power plants.

However... you're a young man - follow the money!!

    Best of luck.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. Had a 2nd interview at the printing press company yesterday with the president. Expect an offer soon. Actually got a tour of the factory, was amazed at the size of the place. They do all of there own fab and cutting work, actually have 2 good size laser cutters in house! Also there atmosphere at least in the office seems a little more laid back, dress code wise. Jeans are ok there. The coal material handling system is shirt and tie everyday. [xx(]

I have a head hunter that is working with the coal handling company that is aware of my 2nd interview w/ the print shop. They pushed me out to next week for the 2nd interview but really want me back.

Guess I'm gonna try to hold out for the best offer.
